FWIW I think his arbitration hearing really soured Tucker on the Astros.

I remember speaking on how it was a bit shocking to him and he wasn't a big fan of the process.

Not that anything was wrong with it but I just think he took it personally and from then on decided he didn't want to sign an extension here.

No inside sources just personal opinion.

Tucker has been described to me as a guy who doesn't really love baseball the way you want your franchise player to. He never really "fit in" among guys like Altuve and Bregman who really love the game and the grind that comes with it. I'm not saying anything bad about him- he's a good guy by all means- but he just doesn't really love baseball.

The Astros weren't happy with the way he went about his rehab and I believe that was a big red flag for them as they had grown concerned about what would happen if given a long contract.

I think the odds of extending him were already pretty slim, but that's when they ultimately made their decision.

What happens with Brice Matthews now? Do we trade Peña or can either play the outfield? Lol
Matthews has played some CF -- I think

They think Matthews can be an above average big league center fielder, but I hope they decide where they want him soon and start giving him consistent reps there.

I don't want him to get Pedro Leon'd and yanked around so many different spots that he never finds a true position.

Good trade.

To follow up on my previous post, start over;
-pay off the bad contracts
-tank for a few seasons
-replenish your pipeline in MiLB
-build a new core
-identify a new manager to lead new core

I've heard that too, but I don't know if he would expect it to be different with any other club. It would have probably been the exact same process regardless of the team he was with.

If he has an issue with that, then he can feel free to not sign for a half billion dollars in a year and try another industry.

Law is big on loud tools so Paredes would not be his kind of guy.

If you could stretch our remaining dollars over a trio of Santander/Hernandez, Kepler, and Canha, you could really have something and slide Chas to CF.

Caratini, Dubon, Canha, and DeZenzo on the bench.

Then you could still potentially have Framber, Pressly, and Meyers to trade for other RP help, depth, and/or prospects.

If both Chas and Jake are starting in the OF on opening day, they struck out big time.

Was told this afternoon there's a plan and this is just the first domino. But of course, we've seen teams strike out on plans A, B and C before. Time will tell.
what have you heard about Jurickson Profar and
Anthony Santander? We have to get at least one of these two ( preferably both) for us to have a realistic shot to compete for the WS this year.

Good return, mature move by the organization recognizing they weren't going to pay Tucker's price in free agency next offseason.

With JV coming off the books there's now flexibility to make some moves in free agency and still make the postseason, imo.

A lot still rests on the entire pitching staff's recovery (it feels like) from TJ.

The more I think about it, Bregman doesn't make sense. Let's go get the best OFer can.

Thank Bregman for the memories and move on. He's a no show for 1/3 of the season, way overvalued based on likely future production, and doesn't even do well anymore with the things that historically made him uniquely valuable other than defense. Overpaying for Bregman, no matter what else we did, was always going to be a huge mistake. If Drayton would have done it in 2009, it's not a good move. And Drayton would have paid Bregman a max deal.

Looks like a job to him. Always thought he looked like he could take it or leave it.

Any chance they go get a legitimate centerfielder?

Sure seems like a couple years of mediocrity could be upcoming.

Altuve and Santander were on the Venezuela team together for the WBC. Not sure what kind of relationship they have but can't help to bring in somebody your HOFer is comfortable with.

If we can somehow miracle a Bregman contract, unload Pressly and find a lefty power OF bat I say we do it and make another mini run.

If we can't, I say we sell everyone for prospects and reload for 2028

I just want one more title for Altuve. I think we can still get it by 2028/2029 … but we can't punt on 2025 with a decent core in place.

Go get somebody like Santander or Profar for the offense and then a big time arm while shedding the Pressly contract if you can

I agree with some on this board that I'm not overly upset seeing Tucker go knowing we could t sign him for what he'd want next season. I'm glad with the players we got but we absolutely need to address the OF. For a farm system rich in OF prospects we sure seem to need some

And yet we got an All-Star in return for said All-Star...

Very different than trading vets for a package of prospects in a rebuild.

Red Sox are the only other team I've heard any sort of noise in regards to Framber besides the O's. Possible deal I will throw out is Christian Campbell and Hunter Dobbins. Campbell prolly needs til midsession but is an all around offensive player that likely is best in LF. He could take over for whichever of Chas or Meyers falls flat (assuming we sign another corner OF). Dobbins is already in AAA and was consistently hitting 98 as a starter. Big time stuff and at 25 is ready to compete for a rotation spot. Prolly makes sense to backfill with someone like Buehler on a one year deal. Campbell is a top 20 prospect so you likely have to send something else their way.

I think you're overthinking it. Getting Abreu back is the play.

I know that people are overpaying in the current frenzy, but why would Boston give us Abreu for Framber, especially after already trading for Crochet?

That seems like a major overpay on their part.
MaxPower

They have a very pissed off fanbase and that FO needs to win (similar to Cubs). I also suspect they believe they can extend Framber.

Abreu has extreme splits but is a legit defensive OF (unlike some of the other potential OF bats available), and we have no shortage of RH OF options that could platoon with his strong LH bat.

I've heard their owner is wary to extend pitchers after getting burned on David Price and Chris sale. I'd prefer to see him go to the NL

I was thinking about the package the White Sox got for Crochet. On paper Crochet is a an ace with 2 years of control and tinier than usual arbitration #s. He should have a much larger value than 1 year of Tucker who's getting paid fairly well in year 3 of arb. But the packages are fairly similar. Monty = Smith (slight edge to Smith due to minor league success in 24 vs the injury), 3 years of Paredes > Teel, and that just leaves the lesser chips. Sox got 2 vs our 1. Credit to Dana there. Baseball trade value has crochet, the package from the Red Sox, & the package from the Cubs all fairly high in the "50s" while Tucker alone was around 31.
