The only way Arenado makes even a very tiny bit of sense is if we have to give up nearly nothing to get him and STL eats ALOT of his salary. I just don't see STL doing that or honestly why we're even interested after yesterday's trade.

I'm okay with Arenado if they eat a lot of his salary.

I don't think he will be as bad as Abreu at all. First off he's younger (33) and more athletic. Part of Abreu's problem I felt was he was slow in his swing and behind everything. Nolan hasn't hit that yet and probably won't for another 2-3 years

Reread my post guys… it's not limited to Arenado.

Am I missing something on Santander? Looks like an absolute steal for money that's been talked about. Why are we not more involved?

We're among a few teams that are.

Depending on who is projecting, we are $15-25M under the tax threshold. If that is indeed our self imposed cap then we may have to move someone else to get Santander.

On a scale of 1-10 hurting as an Astros fan (10 the worst):

Springer 10
Correa 8
Tucker 3

Have to say this is about right for me as well. Yuli hurt me more than Tucker.

Arenado is under contract thru 2027

the Rockies are still on the hook to pay $5 MM of his 2025 salary (per baseball reference)

and $5 MM of his 2026 salary.

if the Cardinals would likewise pick up $5 MM for 2025 and 2026...

it would reduce the Astros portion to $22 MM for 2025...and $17 MM for 2026

I'm at a 7. We're going to miss his left handed bat, his base stealing, and his ability to battle the best pitchers in the game.

All the best Ted.

Melton, Smith, and Matthews could make that 2026 roster nasty with the money we will have available.

Man I hope I'm wrong. But I'm not high on Melton at all

Man, it would be nice to work something with the Mets and get Gilbert back.

Agreed. I'd be willing to move him (not for Arenado).

I wonder if we regret not signing Kooch now. Given the market he looks like a good deal and they'd be able to trade Framber without worrying about needing to backfill the rotation.

My favorite Tucker moment was the 2021 ALCS game 6 homerun he hit in the 8th inning. Being at the park that night was awesome because that homerun sealed the pennant and those last 3 Boston outs after that were so stress free.

It's also the only time I've seen us win the AL or WS in person. (Missed 2019 ALCS G6 due to Aggie football road trip to ole Miss)

For me it's not the money.

After doing a brief look at his numbers I don't want Arenado because he's declining.

He's AbreuV2.0 that you'd be giving up assets to get. Hard pass.

Have to go with his catch to win the WS. There was such a mix of joy, validation, and relief in that moment.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

This one doesn't hurt like Springer. I hated to see him go. To me he was the heart and soul of the team.

Correa was the spine. Literally.

Tucker was the embodiment of his broken shin.

The club will miss Bregman's fire and lower skill set way more than Tucker.

I'm kind of excited to see what the Astros analytics and pitching lab do with him. Seems prime for the kind of guy they look at and say "this is your best pitch but you only throw it 32..4% of the time, why not throw it 62.7% of the time?" Then he goes out and just deals.

We better not do something stupid like trade Cam Smith for him. If you trade peanuts and Cards are eating half that I will hold my nose and stomach it.
All I do is Nguyen

That is my hope too. Kind of how we did with Kukuchi last year
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...

So the master plan is: trade for Arenado and try to sign Santander.

2B Altuve
DH Yordan
1B Parades
LF Santander
C Diaz
3B Arenado
SS Pena
CF Meyers
RF Chas

That doesn't look good to me.

I'm not opposed to Arenado but am opposed to giving up anything more than a couple high variance prospects for Arenado

It could be… But it depends on Peña being better and Chas going back to his 2023 production

If both of those things happen, then we have a really solid lineup with the two additions you posted, but if we get their 2024 production, it's gonna be a rough one

I'd rather pay Alonso than other things I've heard rumored.

Fair number of free agent options in OF if Crane is willing to spend that wouldn't require breaking the bank but would be upgrades from current post Tucker trade situation.

Still lol last season that Heyward and Gamel were picked off the scrap heap and brought better production than the Meyers/Chas duo

Stros use free agency wisely and they're still a contender
