I'd say not a bad draft

I'm more interested in maximizing return but I don't think that means you have to punt. You can take advantage of other teams desperation to be relevant. That's effectively what the Tucker trade was. Pitchers like Megill from the Mets and Crawford from the Red Sox have good upside with multiple years of control. They aren't Framber but our pitching coaches have worked magic on much less talented guys. If the Mets are resigning Alonso maybe you can get Megill and Vientos for Framber and Melton.

Time to table all the Framber trade talk.
I think it's wise to see how the season plays out and wait for the trade deadline with Framber
On trading Framber now vs the deadline, one advantage now is you can get big league guys. Use the Mets as an example. Maybe we get Megill back as part of the package to fill out our rotation. Well, in August he is likely a key part of their rotation and unavailable. Similar to the Tucker trade, no way you are getting Paredes in August as part of that package. Basically in August you are looking at prospects only.

Huh? Peredes was traded to the Cubs at the deadline last year.

I don't believe it is conceivable the Astros could win the 2025 World Series without Framber.

I also don't believe the Astros are very likely to win the World Series anytime soon, but I think we can throw our best shot the rest of the Yordan, Altuve, Hunter Brown, Yanier, Pena, Bryan Abreu, Josh Hader window. Maybe we'll get hot and lucky at the end one of these years.

I believe trading Framber now would increase our chances in 2026+, but think we need to hold on to have any shot at all in 2025.

A rotation of Hunter Brown, Spencer Arrighetti, Tylor Megill, Hayden Wesneski, Ronel Blanco is not likely going to do well in consecutive playoff series.

Framber is the best of that group and him going twice in a series gives you a far better shot.

Depends on the growth of those young players and whether Garcia, McCullers (lol), or Javier can come back healthy/effective.

Still, waiting until the deadline and if we end up having a surplus of pitchers its possible we could trade one of them instead and get an impact player while keeping Framber.

I think it's too risky to trade him now if you want a competitive 2025. It was an acceptable move in Tucker's case.

By a team that was out of contention to another team out of contention. No team out of contention is trading for 2 months of Framber.

Yeah, too risky.

Hunter Brown is the only starting pitcher who could seemingly supplant Framber as the best pitcher on the team, but I wouldn't bank on it.

If HB and Spencer wake up as Cy Young candidates next year and Javier + LMJ show up pitching at their peak then the Astros will be the best team in the American League.

I don't really see any of that happening.

I could see 1 or two of those happening, but that will just make us relevant and maybe win the West again.

There will be teams in contention that may have different needs where Framber for them would make sense and they could have a surplus of mlb ready talent they don't need

Lots of could and maybes there but that's my point. You don't need the stars to align of someone else having exactly what you need at the big league level that they are willing to trade and that team happens to be in contention.

That's true now. Why would teams that want to compete in 2025 trade talent for Tucker? Because they have surpluses elsewhere

But your point is correct, the stars need to be even more aligned at the trade deadline

Officially time to move on from Bregman and not let the next tier slip away.

No chance Bregman impacts us signing someone like Kepler. I think 10 M was more than we were willing to spend regardless.

Yeah, Kepler ain't worth $10MM. $6.5-7 max

What exactly do they think will change? They are the best hitter and pitcher respectively on the market. They think an owner is gonna hit the jackpot on the lotto tickets in their stocking stuffers?

Well you are personally throwing a fit because you are feeling the pressure of missing out on players.

They are banking on a team/owner feeling the same as you. And then agreeing to pay more.
MaxPower

How does an owner paying more than us for a free agent benefit us? End result is we don't have that player.

It is to Bregman and Burnes' benefit to wait and allow the teams to feel pressure.

You said "what do they think will change?"

They think the pressure and anxiety will build and compel teams to pay them the contracts they are looking for.

Astros relieved a lot of the pressure by getting Peredes. Bregman is nice to have at the right cost, but not a necessity

They should target an OF next. I am not sure why they are insistent on 3B/1B as those positions can be intelligently covered already

It worked for Matt Chapman and Jordan mintgomery

Yeah sorry, by they I thought you meant the Astros. I think last year proved if you aren't the cream de la crme then teams aren't going to cave and, if anything, it can hurt the player because teams may move on to other free agents and reduce competition.

We made our big move to address 3B and the future with Cam Smith. We need more, but I think we can afford to wait and be savvy. I think once teams start spending up their funds, we can make a splash in the trade market. Then pick up the value guys before spring.
