Why would he take the same money but without having the option to opt out?

The bigger question to me is why Alex would prefer fewer years and total dollars. Does he think he's getting big money when he's 35?
Also depends on whether the option is mutual or not. With a mutual option, if he has a great year, he can opt out and test FA again. But if he has a terrible year and needs surgery on his elbow again, the team can opt out and not have to pay the rest of the contract. I would offer Bregman 6/180 if there were mutual options in years 3-6.

The one thing I love in MLB the show is the roof open in July games. The people on the first base side leaving a afternoon game

Random thought of the day.

I want to trade for Willi Castro.

Why, you ask.

  • Switch-hitting plus defender that can play anywhere including SS.
  • Makes Dubon expendable ($5 M)
  • Only costs ($6.4 M)
  • Hits better from the left side: 114 & 120 wRC+ the last 2 seasons as LHH vs RHP.
  • Castro is a player who would be significantly helped by the Icebox (+13 HR in his career, +5 over the last 2 seasons)

Right now we don't have a left-handed INF option. Pena especially comes to mind as being very splits dependent. I would think he's affordable to get in a trade and we could replace 100 PAs of Pena vs RHP (90 wRC+ in '24, 88 wRC+ career)

Yea i did a bad job of making my point. The point I was trying to make is that yes, the astros offer might be the longest and best total value and best fit, but there are likely other factors (ego, AAV) that would put it out of the lead.

It is in the lead but it's not high enough for him. They're waiting on one of these teams to blink and it's just not happening.

Our fanbase is so spoiled by the days where our lineup was stacked 1-9 and our rotation had unreal depth.

That's a good rotation. Best in baseball? No, but it's a good rotation.

I guess I am just less optimistic about Brown, Blanco, and Arrighetti following up with the way they pitched last year. No good reason for it, other than they havent put together multiple seasons of sustained success.
