How does a commissioner stop what they are doing? What rule are they breaking? It sucks what they are doing and it's not really in the spirit of things, but they aren't doing anything illegal.

Commissioner works for the owners. He starts trying to punish owners for not breaking any rules, that guy is gone.

The deferrals that stated with Ohtani do not seem to be in good faith. I have to imagine a better commissioner would have worked on that immediately.

They are playing within the rules right now. It sucks, but it is what it is and they know it. They also know that this will force change. The good thing for them is that if they have all the contracts locked up they will be grandfathered in and can compete at a level no one else can with the new bargaining agreement.

Pretty smart on their part, we can hate it, but you also have to admire it.

I dunno for sure but I do think you are more likely to get screwed with arbitration guys like Pena and HB, meaning if there is a lost season in 2027 I could see a concession being letting those guys get credit for service time. That would result in this effectively being Peña's last year here and you really only get 2 of 3 remaining seasons from HB. That's what happened with the Mickey Mouse Covid season.

He approved the deferred money for Ohtani. He should have ruled that it still counts against the salary cap. The integrity of the cap is now completely lost. Pretty sure that was never the intent when it was established.
He lost me when he didn't release the full report on the cheating. He covered for the bluebloods and hung the Astros out to dry, alone. He might be a bigger s...head in my book than Bud Adams

Wonder if he would have had another year or two in him if he'd stayed in Houston. Maybe that whole Hader thing broke him or at least spun his end around. I think he, at least publicly, handled it all well.

I wouldn't either. I think Bello is a cheap mid to late rotation type who gets overpaid by the end of his deal. I don't want him. I want Duran, badly.

I made that comment as to why I think it's feasible that it's both guys being discussed together. It doesn't make sense to say we would have to trade Paredes and more to get just Bello, which is what would be inferred from that tweet if you take it as either or. Maybe we couldn't line up the prospects perfectly to make Paredes - Duran work so we pivoted to let's make it a bigger deal and you throw in Bello.

That would need to be an assload of prospects based on the cost of starting pitching in trades this offseason.

Duran is definitely more desirable than Bello. We have plenty of mid to back end arms now, but high end position player talent isbwhere we struggle to keep up. You cannot trade Paredes without adding another impact bat to backfill.

This is kind of what I was thinking. The Sox pen isn't weak but due for some regression. I could see them asking for Paredes and Abreu for Duran and we say you need to expand it to include Bello and we will add prospects. I'd prefer to trade someone other than Frey but think that's the kind of deal you could make. Maybe that frees up Arrighetti as trade bait for another deal.
