I think the routine Correa is talking about is more than what a manager has purview over. It starts in the offseason and carries over into the season and what guys are doing away from the field. I don't think it was strictly limited to guys who got hurt, either, as Pena probably works harder than anyone. But I look at a guy like Yanier who showed up looking 20 pounds fluffier and see someone who Carlos was probably talking about.

This, I hope, is a huge part of what I believe CC brings to the table. We have a lot of Latin players who will listen to a guy with a ring on his finger and millions in the bank. After Brantley retired, a vocal clubhouse leader has been missing.

I agree with you on a lot of stuff. However, this is a bull**** way to view it. It's clear he's put in work each offseason and worked his ass off to get to the point where he can pitch.

If he'd have been old Lance, you'd have no complaints.

Just because it doesn't work out or he doesn't do what you think he should do doesn't mean he doesn't have the drive to want to play or try to actually earn what he's being paid.

Who knows what conversations the org is having with him this offseason by the way.

I'm still going to disagree with you on that one. I look at him missing two seasons (while being paid a buttload and having already missed a season previously) as him needing to see himself as a rookie again. A rookie would drag his balls through broken glass just to get to the bigs in any role he could be in. That means Lance, even last season, should have physically and mentally prepared himself for either role. If he doesn't feel like he owes that to the org and to his teammates then he's a dud. Candidly it doesn't matter if the org even said, "Hey we see you as a starter" last offseason. He should have still had the awareness that's it was highly unlikely he would be able to log starter innings and, even if pitching well, he'd likely need to go to the one in a reduced innings role (even if that means he needs two days rest and goes multiple innings).
