Revisiting this with rumors Red Sox are shopping Hicks. I will say this makes sense if you want to trade Bryan Abreu. Hicks slides into the setup role with one extra year of control. Abreu should net a decent payback for a team that could use some prospects.

Don't think Astros are interested in that deal, especially not taking on additional salary to go over the cap. If they were, the deal would have been done already.

I think Astros and Red Sox are not really actively talking at this point as neither side has budged.

This would only add 3 M and keep us under the cap (barely). If you wanted to stay a little lower, you could push back and make Boston cover a couple million. With another outfielder, the price for Sanchez probably gets cheaper since he's less needed. That would free up more.

According to @JonHeyman, the Red Sox could platoon Romy Gonzalez and David Hamilton at 2B and play Marcelo Mayer at 3B.

Contreras, Story, Gonzalez/Hamilton, & Mayer has to be the worst infields in baseball offensively.

Story has an Altuve level noodle arm so it's concerning for Mayer that he isn't getting a shot to take over SS

Not arguing, just curious why your response is diamond emoji obvious to you? $10MM a year seems cheap, especially for a guy who seems really confident in himself. And a number that's like $10MM a year short of what similar guys to him are getting.

The other day on the pod Rome basically said Hunter was begging for a deal early on. And if you look at the market for guys after 1 season, especially a few years back, 70 M is completely normally. All the As players, a bunch of the Red Sox, a bunch of Brave, Sandy, Greene, etc.

I wouldn't look at it like 10 M a year. Wilson had 5 years of team control and could have probably made 30-40 M during those years. This is more like tacking on 2 years at 30-40 M. It's a discount because it's all guaranteed and probably partially given early.

I understand they have infield issues. My original comment was more-so meant to be that if Mayer was even a decent defensive SS there's no way they would be starting Story there since he's bad. I get that veteran status may be a tiebreaker but if he's close to as bad as Story then he must be a bad defensive SS, which is interesting when the "experts" had him as a tick above average fielder with 60 grade arm.

Random musing of the day but I wouldn't mind finding a way to get Schneider from the Jays. His pull air % is very Isaac-esque so he'd be a perfect fit in MMP. No clue where you play him and he's yet another righty but great fit that doesn't seem like he'd be that expensive.
