Salary dumps like this are just more evident of how broken the system is. We dump $6.8MM (net $6MM) because we can't afford to be over the CBT level all while the LAD light another cigar with rolled $500 bills as they sign another player to a $200MM deferred contract.

I know it's a year away, but I really do think the looming lockout on Dec 1 is going to be very long and very ugly.

I literally don't understand the salary cap fetishism. It's a billion dollar sports franchise, the penalty on being $7million over the salary cap, even the second year in a row is peanuts (compared to the entire payroll).

I think the hit is more the loss of draft picks. For a team that has a depleted minor league system those higher picks matter.

I think the Astros value Zach Cole much higher than other teams. No prospect pedigree. Later draft pick.

I don't think there is a very high chance he is traded.

Was reading an article today about MLB contracts and how much everyone else in baseball is angry (besides players and LAD) over the Tucker deal.

Because LAD are in the 110% salary tax bracket, Tucker's deal of $57MM is really costing LAD roughly $120MM. And LAD doesn't care.
