We're trading Paredes, Meyers, and prospects to the Padres for Will Wagner and Jackson Merrill. Continuing to ease roster constraints and bring back guys we drafted. Paredes will play first for SD.

This feels like a pure salary dump. We'd better be adding a legit piece soon.

Why? Salazar is the backup
Seems we have bigger needs

The salary dump makes me wonder if they're gonna take on some salary in a parades deal for an everyday player (someone like duran or a leverage reliever).

This is my hope.
I liked Joey Lopes before he got the call-up. Then he set the world on fire. Who didn't love that? But that was kind of fluky. Nothing about his batted ball #s then or even in '25 (major or minors) really does much for me.

Hmmm...First I had heard of that and interesting.
I think Salazar is a perfectly capable backup.

He is basically the speed/defense guy we lost in Melton

Ross Atkins says the #BlueJays have liked Jesús Sánchez for a while now.

Salary dumps like this are just more evident of how broken the system is. We dump $6.8MM (net $6MM) because we can't afford to be over the CBT level all while the LAD light another cigar with rolled $500 bills as they sign another player to a $200MM deferred contract.
I know it's a year away, but I really do think the looming lockout on Dec 1 is going to be very long and very ugly.

I guess he didn't watch any of his games with the Astros last year

I literally don't understand the salary cap fetishism. It's a billion dollar sports franchise, the penalty on being $7million over the salary cap, even the second year in a row is peanuts (compared to the entire payroll).

He can play CF so maybe they're looking at including Meyers or Cole in the potential next deal.
Bingo. Gotta reset the penalty, hopefully this yearMathguy64 said:Severian the Torturer said:Mathguy64 said:

I think the hit is more the loss of draft picks. For a team that has a depleted minor league system those higher picks matter.

Good luck to Blue Jay fans getting annoyed 3 times a game with Smilin' Strikeout Jesus
In other news: Nate Pearson, who had an elbow clean out in the offseason, will throw a bullpen today.
