Rooting for this guy. The power and speed combo is about as good as it gets. If he can k under 33% then he's going to be a difference maker on both sides of the ball. If he gets it under 30% at some point in his career then he's could be a star.


I agree. And it can be done. Look at Pena. He went from 24% to 20% to 17% K% Look at Springer 33% in partial season in 2014 then 24% and then sub 20% the majority of his career.

given that Cole might not be making the team out of ST according to Chandler, I'd say that Matthews might have a better shot at taking play time right now

I think Matthews gets a couple of weeks to start the season on the big team while Pena is on IL. If he earns it, he sticks. If not, Cole gets his shot with the help of being a much needed lefty bat. My gut tells me Meyers has a very short leash if the other two come close to performing. At a minimum, we get a lotto ticket minor league pitcher for Meyers and lower payroll for a midsession trade if in position to make a move.

Meyers will be extremely easy to move, see Siri to TB, Straw to Cleveland. He's just more valuable to us right now, with no other known quantities in the OF, although Smith was strong in the corner. Reddick has been pretty effusive praising Brice during his time in camp, but that could be a little sunshine pumping from team-adjacent media.

Garrett Stubbs took his limits about as far as he could and had a really nice career as a backup catcher. That's what I hope for Jackson Appel.
