I really like the chase United infinite card. The club access w two guests is worth it. Free drinks and food and 90,000 points and good deal with Avis. 4 points per dollar too.

When you upgrade your card, do you have to call and get everything switched over? Do you sign up for the new card, then cancel your old card? I'm gonna do United quest -> Infiniti Club card.

helluva deal for amex bonvoy right now, 185k points.
Please use my link to sign up; get 40k for the referral, so we both win!

$650 yearly fee seems high, but you can get back half if you eat out once a month, they give you a monthly $25 restaurant credit totaling $300/yr.

You also get a free night at marriott up to 85k, easily $300 worth. So the fee is recouped easily.

There is also a lower card, the bevy, with 155k sign up and $250 fee.

What I just read is it is live if you go into a Chase Bank and sign up, but that it will be online in April (I've seen 4/3 and 4/8-4/9).

I've got to figure out this "game". Right now I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve. They took away all the restaurant benefits last year mid-year (just found out), so not sure what it gets me anymore as even some of the lounge options seem to be lacking.

I'm finally going to get rid of my Marriott that I've had for a bajillion years as I will hit Plat for life in the next 1-2 months.

is there a summary of how this all works?

I just got a Delta Gold AMEX b/c they offered me $500 credit + 50,000 miles if I spend $3,000 in the 1st 6 months to book travel to London this spring (which if 1-cent/1000 miles = 100,000 miles total). I was planning to just cancel the card before the $150 annual fee is due next March. I did not see anything in the T&C that I would lose my miles with Delta if I did this.

But the Chase card seems like a great deal as well. How do I redeem or transfer chase points to miles on an airline? There is also something about booking travel thru Chase Travel? Can also transfer those points to hotels.

Is the reddit page still a good source of information? No kids in the house and would love to leverage some of our monthly spending to travel rewards

AMEX usually charges the annual fee the first month after you are approved in the 1st billing cycle, but you probably dont want to cancel before the annual fee hits regardless, because they can claw back the points from you. Just wait a year, use the points, pay the annual fee, and cancel anytime after that.

Chase has airline and hotel transfer partners. So you just transfer Chase points to whatever airline/hotel you want to book directly, then use the airline/hotel points to book. You get more value doing it this way versus booking on the Chase travel portal. Below explains it more in depth.

Thanks,

My annual fee was also waived the 1st year so it won't be due again until March 2026.

Got a wedding coming up this fall (groom parent). Maybe I'll get that Chase Sapphire card (if the offer is still available in July) and put the rehearsal dinner on the card to quickly get the $5,000 spending and use the bonus miles for a trip next spring with the wife.

This sounds like a winning strategy, but I would act quickly because who knows how long this offer will be around. The 100k offer is the highest offer ever for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP), and the CSP is widely considered one of the best travel cards on the market due to their transfer partners (United, Southwest, Hyatt etc). If I didn't already have the card I would be all over this.

Not off to a great start with Chase. Got my card in the mail yesterday and used it online for a few purchases with no issue. Went to use it for $8 worth of breakfast tacos this morning and it declined. Called customer service and was told it will take some time for Chase to learn my spending habits which seems ridiculous.

It seems annoying, but with the amount of rampant fraud going around, it isn't a bad thing for credit card companies to be cautious. I have had an American Express card for 15 years, and when I bought a $1600 soundbar system on Sunday, they flagged it as suspicious. It was an easy response to a text message, and the charge went through on the second time. I have had a few fraudulent charges caught through the warning system and it beats having to fight them when one goes through.

That just means you need to start opening more cards and rack up some more points.

But question. I have a United Explorer card as I live in Houston and fly United 95% of the time. But I have an expensive family trip coming up to Norway...probably be 6k in ticket cost and United is not a viable option. Is it worth getting a Chase Sapphire card for this one trip? Is there any real benefit to this card otherwise for a United flyer?

Sad I missed the deal above, but seems like 60k and this single trip may make it worthwhile? I can't imagine keeping the card long term makes sense, as the benefits otherwise seem similar to the United card. Even that I only use it for travel purposes or warranty protection when it makes sense.

Thanks!

60k points isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. If you got the Sapphire, those points could be transferred to one of Chase's partners, like United or Air France. You would have to do some research to figure out which partner gives the best value and requires the least amount of points. The link below is probably a good start. I usually find some good value in transferring points to Hyatt.

You didn't say which Sapphire you would apply for, but they have different benefits. The Preferred would come out to $750 if you used 60K points through the portal. The Reserve would give you a $300 travel credit, and the 60K points would be worth $900, but the annual fee is $550.

Thanks, it was for the Preferred which seems like the direct United Explorer competitor. I went ahead and applied, seems like it's worth it for this trip even if I don't land up keeping the card. Bonus plus getting some sort of multiplier on points on the airfare add up decently I think.

In the last 12 months I have done:

Southwest business card to earn enough points for companion pass for half of last year and all of this year. Already used it 5 times since I earned it and have another trip booked in July. I have only booked flights with points and still have about 60k left

Venture 100k offer
Citi strata premier 80k offer
Chase Sapphire 100k offer

I am at 4/24 so I might try for another ink on a few weeks or just chill and let things cool off. I plan to see if my wife can get approved for the southwest business card in late 2025 so we can try for companion pass for 2026-27, assuming they keep that program going.
gvine07

For those of you who want to play the Southwest game, now would be a great time to sign up. You can earn 85,000 Rapid Rewards points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months... Do your own research, but you probably don't want that to hit the bonus until 2026 so you can earn 135,000 in one year. Once you hit the 135k in a calendar year, you get the companion pass for the rest of that calendar year and the whole next year... it's more valuable to hit it early in the year!

Most people hit the companion pass level by getting a personal CC bonus, and a business CC bonus. Southwest has major changes coming up in 2026, and the credit card makes more sense that it did before.

Please use my referral link if you plan to sign up for any Southwest card: https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226c/FTJ8XHJHV3
