Yes you can get both the United club and the United explorer and get bonuses on both. Some of Chases other cards (Marriott and SW cards and also Sapphire) have restrictions that would prevent you from applying for more than one unless you do a modified double dip.

You can get two CIP or other chase business cards without an EIN as long as you space them far enough apart.

I want to talk about my first experience with Chase reconsideration line, in case any one has a similar situation.

I signed up for Chase United club card and got a 'we'll let you know' response.

A few days later, I get a notice in my acct that I was denied due to too many cards. I went to my experian and only counted 4 (I did this before signing up of course), so I was a bit confused.

Turns out, I was only checking active cards; I then see there is an inactive section, and sure enough I recently closed one of my wife's cards, and I was an authorized user, so that was 5.

So I was kind of pissed I screwed this up, and I just wasted the hard pull on my credit and not going to get it (75k sign up bonus as well.)

So I called reconsideration line, and pleaded that 3 of the 5 in the last 24 are not my cards; they are me as an authorized user on my wife's cards. It's well documented that these count, but I figured it's worth a shot.

He had a simple set of questions - do you use the cards and are you the responsible party to pay it. I said, no I don't use the cards, and my guess is technically no, they are cards under my wife's SS#, so the debt from her cards' use is not my responsibility. I figured that was the answer he wanted, so I gave it to him.

He immediately said he would remove those 3 and do a reconsider.

Then he came back and said I can get approved, but I have to move credit around. I currently have 3 cards with chase, (Marriott, SW and united), and those 3 cards add up to roughly $55k in available credit. The min. on the chase club card is $15k, so $70k is too much risk for them.

He told me the 3 limits of my 3 cards, and the United explorer one is $21k, so if I moved $15k to club card, that leaves it with $6k, which is above the min. of $5k for that card. This works for me, because as soon as I have the club card in hand, I'll be canceling the explorer card anyway since it has no benefits that the club card doesn't except global access/tsa pre check reimbursement, which I already have on amex marriott card.

So I'm glad I called. It took about 20 minutes, but now I have club card on its way with 75k bonus, and club access is for 'one adult guest and dependent children under 21, or up to two guests'.
The explorer one time passes don't cut it for family trips.

What are the general velocity guidelines on the CIP?

Approved in early March on CIP #2 and hit the bonus. First was PC-ed to Ink Cash. Looking to be set up to hit another bonus for larger spend in May and July for taxes and insurance.

If I am too hot for the CIP, what would the next best offer be?

I have most of the main travel cards under Amex and Chase.

Just got this email from Chase:

Quote:

Your bonus offer is extended
(for accounts opened from 1/1/2020 through 3/31/2020)
As we all adjust to the impacts of COVID-19, we want to make sure you have enough time to earn the new account bonus on your United Club Card that you opened on March 4, 2020.

That's why we're extending the time for you to earn your bonus by 3 months so you now have a total of 6 months from your account opening date to earn your new account bonus.
There's nothing you need to do to activate this extension it's automatic.

Please stay safe and, as always, thank you for being our customer.

Comforting to hear Chase is actually looking out for customers for something like a sign up bonus.

I already hit the min. spend anyway!

Wells Fargo Biz Platinum? Has a $500 bonus. Best way to get it is to open a business checking account in branch and you will usually get a pre approval for it.

Or here's another option if you have some big payments coming up

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/us-bank-leverage-business-card-750-signup-bonus-with-7500-spend/

Higher spend but no annual fee. US Bank can be tough to get approved for if you don't already have accounts with them or live near a branch.

Thanks! Doctor of Credit is my favorite credit card blog.

For flexible points, I try to stick in the Chase and Amex ecosystems if possible. I know there is value to be had with other banks but I'd prefer not to have to learn and track another rewards program.

Brand wise, we use SW, Hyatt, and occasionally AA/BA.

Does any one know if applying for another CIP at the beginning of May when last approved in March is too quick?

Typical velocity guidance is every 3 months for a CIP app. So June would probably be better but who knows.

In the current environment, they might be more willing to approve you since I'm sure overall applications are down. Or they might see you as a bust-out risk and be more willing to shut you down for too many applications.

Also, on the Wells Fargo card, it pays out in cash so you don't have to track the points.

Man, CIP is now $15K spend to get 100K points and it is apparently very hard to get approved for it now.

Man 16 days and no new posts. I've been rolling with the same cards with no new ones for about 6 months now. Think I'm gonna get the CSP again for myself, and I'm not sure what I'm going to get the wife yet. Trying to continue to build our Chase UR Points as high as possible.

Anyone wanna share their CSP referral link for me?

I would appreciate some help from the fellow credit card-ers....

My wife's Amex Plat renewal fee came through in April. We tried calling the retention line multiple times and never received an offer. With the $40 per month in credits for cell phone and streaming + other benefits, we are still coming out ahead but I don't love the idea of paying the full $550 fee.

I would just downgrade to the Green or Gold but those both carry annual fees and my wife has never had those cards so it seem silly to not open one of them new to get the sign up bonus, transfer points, close Amex Plat, upgrade Green/Gold back to Plat whenever we want the travel benefits.

We have less than 30k MR points on that account so I am not against just using them as a statement credit and closing if that is the best play.

Any suggestions on either triggering a retention offer or downgrade options?

Additionally, we have some large spend coming up in June/July with insurance and income taxes so I will be looking for the best credit card sign up offer.

I prefer Chase points first but we are both under 48 months on Sapphire cards. I was just approved for a CIP in March.

Don't be surprised if you dont get approved for the Chase Ink card. Chase is tightening up the business cards and its not as easy as it was earlier this year. The gravy train hasn't ended but it is slowing. I know people with a long history with Chase and plenty of business income that didn't get approved recently. Early this year, any joe shmoe selling old video games on ebay could get a Chase business card.

My spouse applied for the US Bank Leverage Card, still no word, but I'm fully expecting a denial based on what I've read about it.

I went back and forth on opening a card to pay income taxes since we had such a surplus of points right now.

I finally settled on applying for an Amex Green card with a 45k MR sign up bonus because we could get an Instant Card number from Amex.

Applied, approved - No Instant Card number. Called Amex to try to get one triggered and/or rushed delivery - no dice. Standard shipping was 3-5 business days.

The mailman came and went yesterday without receiving the card. So I paid our taxes from a checking account and now have a card bonus I need to hit.

Probably my worst whiff in 5+ years in the points game.

I'm out for a little bit. At this point I'm at 5/2 for a little while. I'd rather wait until I'm almost fully clear and I'll get back in again. For now, just enjoying our points. Booked a Marriott week in the ozarks to replace our Florida trip next week. We are driving so no flights needed, but I get an extra week of vacay starting october, so we'll likely have a few trips planned next year, so for now just banking points.

We went wild and bought a travel trailer so I have completed retooled my plans. I was going to get companion pass with the wife's account in early 2021, but I've back burnered that. Didn't buy the trailer to park it and fly places. Gonna try to just focus on decent cash back, and eventually getting one of the 2% cards to use as a daily spender when not trying to get bonuses.

If the wife is denied for US Bank Leverage, then I think we'll try Citi Premier next. It can be product changed down the road to a double cash card.

I just recently got the CSP bonus for the 2nd time. I'll probably go for my next bonus around October.
