The Rory hate that developed over the past 2 years is insane. Talked some mild **** about LIV and he somehow became public enemy #1 to some fans. And that **** is truth -> the game is fractured 48 weeks of the year with some of the best players in the world gone and NO ONE is watching it. He didn't fracture it. Yes Trump is, but back in 2020 Rory said he wouldn't play with Trump again after getting called out for playing with him the first time. So yes, Rory got political about disagreeing with Trump's policies. Lest we all forget so soon. However, I like Rory and am glad he won and also glad he sees the errors of his way regarding his old opinions of Trump.

Our definition of "immerse" is clearly different then. Rory got painted as pro Trump in a crazy time when it was particularly controversial to be pro Trump and he made a comment he shouldn't have to distance. That's not "immersing yourself in American politics". And clearly that's not how he really felt since he's played golf with him since and they seem to have a good relationship. But yeah, let's put him on the hate list and leave him there. Again, I think most of the hate actually comes from all of the anti LIV stuff

Maybe immerse is too strong a word, and you're obviously going to hang your hat on that (rather than the comments he made and should never have said in the first place), however commenting on Trump and Trump's politics did not win favor with Rory and the many conservative golfers in this country.

Honestly, i don't think anyone remembers it. I didn't, but I also don't walk around with a politics scorecard of every comment anyone has ever made. "Immerse himself in American politics" paints a very different picture, so yes, I'll hang my hat on it because it's literally the first point you made. Glad you agree with me that is inaccurate. And I dont really think anyone cared as much about the LIV comments since many pga tour players made similar, if not, more harsh comments like Billy Horschel, JT and Zach Thomas just to name a few. Not only that but Rory was actually gracious in admitting his errs in his comments, which I think gave him favor for those LIV fans.

The Rory hate comes from the PGA-LIV divide. He somehow ended up as the point man for the tour (which was ridiculous and reason enough to fire Monahan) and all the LIV fans turned on him. You can see this on this board. Go back through any of the old threads and the guys giving Rory the hardest time are the LIV fans. I don't think any real golf fan is holding a grudge over a mild political comment from 5 years ago. I haven't even heard that brought up in years.

I didn't doubt it happened. More saying that I doubt it was a big deal since I am a bigger than average golf fan and I didn't even know what you were talking about. So it seems unlikely to me that it's a significant factory in any buildup of Rory hate.

I think any anti-Rory sentiment is a combo of him once being on top of the sport and a lot of people enjoying watching the mighty fall (same reason a lot of people root against LeBron or the Kansas City Chiefs) and him being a little too thin skinned sometimes.

He stole a fans phone in a practice round. I don't care about him talking bad about Liv. I didn't like how he talked bad about the players who left then told the pga guys concerned about the elevated events to just play better.
