How did a thread about Reed turn in to a Rory debate? BTW Reed could win again this week. Tune in at 3am for the Bharain Open.

Somehow all the LIV fanboys fixated on him since he ended up the tip of the spear popping their balloon

I don't mind him talking **** at all. All for it. It's the talking **** as much as he did and then playing the victim that I can't stand.

Another great finish for Reed this morning. Playing well thus far.

It was one poster who said something which led to you and 5 others challenging him on it. Gaslight less.

Believe it or not, but beyond this thread, it's clear Rory gained a lot of haters because of his role vs LIV which has never made a lick of sense to me. Many on this board. Many beyond this board. His name comes up a lot in a negative light when the topic of LIV comes up, just like it did here

Roy gets a lot of haters because he constantly talks crap and whines then either backpedals on it or cries and whines when something doesn't go his way. Comes off as spoiled and tity babyish to me.

I don't think Rory cares about the history, tradition, etc of the PGAT. I think Rory cares about being a guy that made (won) $90,000,000 on tour, and didn't like that guys that hadn't earned half of that, were about to be paid without having actually won it (like Rory did).

I can certainly understand and respect his frustration, but the way he and the PGAT handle it was just laughable. Disrupting how professional golfers got paid bothered Rory and others, and rightfully so…so just come out and say that instead of all the other rhetoric.

I was just pointing out that after three events for the 2026 season, the PGAT poster boy hasn't teed it up, but instead, has been getting paid (not earn) to show up in South Asia.

And spare me the "he's a member of the DPWT" nonsense. If he cared so much about that tour as he did the PGAT, why isn't he crying foul about LIV guys being allowed to play on the DP Tour, potentially even boycotting these tournaments?

The PGAT was never endanger of going anywhere.
Maybe some sort of merger would have disrupted things, but Rory wasn't standing up for the PGAT, Rory is just a whiny little titty baby.

This is a good summary. I remember when LIV started it was Rory and everyone crying about taking dirty Saudi money. Yet every January him and others fly to play in Saudi to get paid for simply showing up and teeing off. He's simply a cry baby hypocrite to the tenth power

Fractured golf is less entertaining which makes it bad for fans which makes it bad for business. Every professional sports league realizes this. That's why all the rest merged and there is no AFL, ABA, USFL, etc.

Rory could have taken the money and been the highest paid LIV player. Some complained about the Saudi angle, although I don't recall that being Rory. I think most of the players stayed away from that aspect, although I'm sure our resident fact-checker will be along soon if Rory said something. But I recall it being mostly the suits and the media.

He did call it a money-grab, which was it not? Even Rahm was on that train until that bag got too big. But if that makes Rory a bad guy, so be it. But the end result was indeed less entertaining golf and a worse product with it fractured.

I was a big fan of LIV just because I enjoy chaos and drama. That said, it made golf very meh. The few majors that LIV players won were interesting just because of the riff but professional golf is way better with the PGA Tour.

I agree golf is less entertaining than it was 5 years ago. I've gone from watching a lot of golf to watching hardly any.

My viewership has gone way down as well, and LIV is definitely a reason for it. (The main reason is probably our larger household nowadays though).

I fully expected Rory to come out and say that the Tiger golf league should get world ranking points now since LIV is getting them.

I doubt him ir PGAT will say much of anything. LIV not getting points and the TV coverage collusion were their biggest plays to limit LIV.

Collusion? What collusion.

LIV initially never got points because the OWGR had set definitions that they failed to meet. Those definitions existed before LIV was ever formed.

TV coverage itself has to be earned by interest. If there was enough interest, the networks would be fine taking on LIV without caring about harming their PGAT bridge. As it stood, there never was much interest.

LIV isn't on tv because hardly anyone wants to watch it

Which is exacerbated by the fact that nearly half of their events are an another continent - with most of those being a combination of SA, singapore, and Australia, etc. They play a lot of golf that is anywhere from 9-14 hours ahead of us. Then a few more in that 5-7 range. That doesn't make for an attractive tv product

LIV's worldwide schedule also makes a TV deal hard because networks like to fill certain time slots. It's why the tour is on from 2-6 on Saturdays and sundays, NFL at noon, 3:00 and 7:00, etc. LIV events are literally at all hours of the day and night. Makes it tough to schedule, even if anyone watched.

Edit-Or what Danny just said.

There are 2 more factors that I think make it bad for tv, but it's not like these 2 matter since no one cares to watch anyway

1) 3somes. Pros playing in 3s are a brutally slow pace. There is a reason the PGA moves to 2somes for weekend golf as soon as the days get long enough in spring

2) Not finishing playing the same set of holes due to the shotgun start mucks up the drama.

I think they should have ditched the shotgun, at least for the final round.

LIV also elected to hold their championship events in October, the busiest sports month of the year. Networks couldn't care less about a start up golf league when the NFL, College Football, and MLB playoffs are all providing plenty of prime time content. Just a huge oversite on LIV's part to not understand their place in the pecking order.

From my understanding this was more for Asian/european markets but I agree that it's terrible for American.

It's settling into being an alternative international tour. One that cost $5 billion to date. Even with unlimited $$$, we'll see how long the Saudis want to fund that kind of thing.

Not sure why they don't purchase the Asian Tour and use it as their defacto Korn ferry Tour with real relegation and promotion. They already have the International Series events tied in with them. Of course, I'm still working under the assumption they want to be taken seriously, which is still a major question mark.

You know who's on the governing board for the official world golf rankings right? Of course there is collusion.

No need to collude when someone sets up a tour that meets virtually none of the requirements for membership. If anything, the OWGR bent over backwards to come up with a way to give them points.

This is where I am. I used to even watch ladies broadcast and some Euro tour. While LIV fracturing the game contributed to me stepping away, in my current middle aged existence I'm done with the emphasis being on all the stories around the sport versus the sport itself.

Every week we're reminded of these guys playing for money that many will never see in their lifetime. Or some political pandering. Or any other side topic that I couldn't care less about. All I wanted to see was golf shots.

I now watch some YT golf, and hardly any pro golf.

Setting up a league that doesn't conform to the rules and then biching that the rules weren't bent to accommodate them was about the most American thing that the Saudis did.

Also, one of the funniest parts was that - beyond the money - playing less golf was one of the top selling points that LIV pitched to the players. So you're telling OGWR it shouldn't matter when you want points, but you're telling players it absolutely matters because it's a major selling point for your league? Ok

Rory has never played in Saudi but don't let facts get in the way of your ignorance.
