Yep - really weird crowd. Like I get the occasional jeer but it was nonstop "get in the bunker calls" and cheering on missed putts. Gross.

Thanks captain obvious. It's just funny that they were acting like the guy did something remarkable taking a red eye to come watch his son.

Probably a lot of the same people that went to the Ryder Cup and brought the same mentality to this.

Between the Ryder Cup, Knicks and now U.S. Open, New Yorkers continue to find new ways to show their true colors. Pitiful.

Yeah, I don't like the guy and wish fail on him because I think he's sorry, but at the same time, one of the reasons I love golf is that it isn't like every other sport as far as rule enforcement and decorum. So I'm not a fan of the meathead fans that talk **** and try to turn it into one, and majors in the northeast have become kind of a beating because of them

Kiz looks like a kid whose mom dressed him up for church. Just doesn't look natural in a suit.

LOL. My wife and I had a very similar conversation yesterday. His tie looked like it was sponsored by Fruit Stripe gum. I like him though, definite upgrade from Azinger.

He's probably wearing that suit with a pair of khaki shorts and Hey Dudes.

I think like many I had a fairly negative view of Wyndham coming into this week. But man that was an awesome win and great tournament. On Sunday I found myself very much rooting for him and am happy he held onto it.

The way they treated him was horrendous. I mean no one is condoning destroying a locker and he's had a couple of other moments of letting the frustration get to him. But its not like hes a criminal or an ass to fans. We see that all the time from Hatton and did from Tiger very frequently. But thats just swept away as "he's passionate".

The guy apologized and did everything he needed to do to atone for it. Move on.

Shotgun Start this morning brought up the point that I agree with that alot of people's hostility towards him may stem from the LACC win where they dont think he was deserving. I think that paired with gambling and people openly rooting against someone they didnt bet on

I haven't paid much attention to Wyndham, and his Oakmont incident was terrible, but I I don't understand why you would hate someone over them having an outburst like that. Maybe I'm missing something from an episode on Full Swing.

It's just this anonymous internet troll type attitude but rolling over into real life. I guarantee it's people who didn't know golf existed 5 years ago and that will say "it's sports that's what you do".

Or maybe just try reading the thread where we gave 3-4 examples. There's also more stuff out there from just this tournament with some questionable lie improvement behavior that isn't posted here.

gotcha, yeah, if you are borderline Patrick Reed, I'm cheering against you...silently.

In addition to some of his questionable stuff, I just don't like his game very much. Frustrates me to see a guy somehow win a US Open hitting the same fade/slice all day. It's supposed to be the toughest test in golf and require all the shots.

Watching him set up 30 yards left and then watching the banana tracer on basically every hole bothers me. While he's clearly light years better than me it does resemble my game slightly and I'm self-loathing enough to not want to see it on TV.

Similarly-
When I was coming up in junior golf 1983-1988 in Los Angeles, the easiest way to spot good vs bad player on the practice tee was to watch the ball flight. Fade (which is 5 yards at the most) or slice meant they sucked, all of the better players hit a draw. If you saw a guy hitting long, high draws, he was going to be good. That was as reliable as the sunrise.

What today's players do with these 50 yard cuts would have been called a slice in my day. Bring back tight, target golf says me. And get TF off my lawn!

This is just a personal preference but all the stuff about his mental coach, the constant dialogue with the caddie, "follow the process" every time he hits a shot, 10 minutes analyzing a putt…wears thin with me. I know it is an element of the modern game but I could tell from a comment Jack made at Memorial that he doesn't particularly favor that stuff.

He is a big part of the reason they were being timed on the front 9. Even so, the stuff that so-called fans were calling out to him is way out of bounds for a pro golf tournament. Has no place. I agree with the comment someone made about The Masters. If a person pulls that crap there, they are gone.
Enrico Pallazzo

Yeah, there is a distinction here:

1) You choose to root against him because he's piled up incidents of being an ass as well as some questionable lie improvement behavior that he essentially has baked into his game. And by root, I just mean you want to see him lose. In every sport, we have people and teams we root for or against for any number of reasons. That's sports; it's boring AF if you are always just some unbiased observer.

2) However, being on Team #1 doesn't mean you condone him being heckled, ****talked, etc. This is where I'm at.

You just described 90% of golfers on tour.

I have nothing against Wyndam and consider myself a fan of his. He has his shortcomings and he's embraced a bit of a heel persona lately, but every sport has those and outside the ropes he seems like a stand-up normal dude.

I'll also add that I saw his psychiatrist on the broadcast about 5 times too many for my liking. Good for him for working on his mental health but at times I felt like I was watching Roy, Romeo and Dr. Griswold at work.

Politely disagree. I don't think 90% of golfers on the PGA tour have mental coaches. Maybe I'm wrong but if 9 out of every ten golfers need a mental coach then golf is screwed. These guys are paid vast amounts of money to play golf and most of it comes from sponsors and endorsement deals. When I look at the top 50 on tour I just dont see 45 of them having mental
Coaches.

I have no issue with him seeking help for personal reasons. I don't care about his mental coach and the brain flips he has to do to hit a shot. I also have no issue with the fact he won a major and was mistreated by a bunch of jerks. I don't care for his game, his antics, and all the redemption crap for bad behavior. Obviously not my flavor. I am curious how much golf media has censored, just like they did with another famous player.

One thing I should say….Wyndam did not deserve the heckling he got, the booing, and people rooting for his ball to go into a bunker or off the green. A lot of us here go to professional tournaments and know what to do and what not to do. I could never imagine heckling a pro golfer during a round but obviously there are some out there who think this is okay.

I followed Charles Howell III at the Deere event for 18 holes on Friday. Happened to be standing by the ropes as he walked off 18 and he actually thanked me for following him. Had no idea he would ever notice but it made me a fan of his. Henrik Stenson and Shane Lowery have also been fun guys to follow.

maybe not 90%, but I bet it's very close. Heck, the A&M golf team has them down the hall from the tutors. Just about everyone in high level sports uses them in some capacity these days. Some maybe every week, some maybe once a year to get some tips on how to optimize that side of your performance.
