Some of the greens are so ridiculous. Only 15-25% of the green is viable as a target. Everything else immediately runs off

I have a couple of coworkers in NY who have had a chance to play it. They loved it. I think tv doesn't do links courses any justice. Hard to judge it with a US Open setup. They played it par 70 from 6300ish yards and the greens were receptive and found it to be a good "what you see in front of you is what you get" test vs a grinder.

Yeah, I would think the daily play has more receptive greens. The USGA tries to make these courses harder than the average member plays.

One of the aspects that doesn't come across on tv is elevation change. It's not massive but it's got some aspects and they use it well

Yep, and for most US Opens, this is what set the winners apart, their ability to scramble and make tough pars.

284 down the middle with an iron. Then cant hit the green with a wedge. Golf is so infuriating

I was thinking same thing. That would have been a lot tougher shot if not for the camera stand. Couple of drops roll away and he gets to place an ideal lie.

Ok, put some negative thoughts in his mind with that 18 putt. There are a few guys that could start hot and make it interesting. But this is going to be tough for him to lose

There could definitely be drama. Clark made a punch of 5-6 footers to keep that from being a +4 round.

What is the unlikability aspect to Clark? Is it just that he is named Wyndham? Or is it an earned dislike how most of the golfing public dislikes Patrick Reed?

Earned. Look back through this thread, someone posted some of the incidents that got him his reputation.

Several incidents. He's banned from Oakmont from doing this at last year's US Open - these members host the tournament, and as a gracious guest, he smashes the F out of their lockers in a temper tantrum after missing the cur. The month before that he had the dangerous driver smashing club throw near a volunteer. The year before that at Bay Hill he had an improving-his-lie cheating incident. And all along the way he has had a habit of just being a dick.

Oof. Thats rough. The locker room thing is bad though. Will take a lot to overcome that. If a member from Oakmont comes out and says all is cool that would help

I agree there's nothing assured but I listened to the USGA presser on Wednesday and it appeared the USGA management is much more sympathetic to the annual criticism about course conditions. So I wouldn't be surprised if they made it softer tomorrow.

Having said that, the results speak for themselves this year. One guy who was saving par all day today and has a relatively comfortable lead and everyone else struggling to catch him. As of today, my opinion is that the USGA set up this course as a great Open course. I was skeptical after the press conference the other day.

They're letting it brown out. Late today it was rough. The wind died down but balls were not holding. I think they'll eater water early tomorrow then let nature take o er for the late tee times.

I thought he apologized and paid for a complete renovation to that locker room at Oakmont.
