Lets see it in context
quote:
that it literally pisses me off when kids like you have the tenacity to talk **** about such a great organization.

Tenacity - The state or quality of being tenacious

Tenacious - Holding or tending to hold persistently to something, such as a point of view.

I was talking of his holding onto the ****ty values. Regardless of if Audacity would have been a better fit, Tenacity still works.

Instead of supporting or refuting a claim, you pick one word to ride. How cute.

General Ramirez mentioned at the New Student Conference Corps sign up event that there is a possibility that some Corps member may have to start off three to a room.

He also stated that under no circumstances would this happen to fish but that he will ask for VOLUNTEERS from the upperclassmen if it becomes necessary. If I recall correctly, he threw out a number ~$450 that would be credited back to anyone who volunteered which he believes will be enough to ensure that the only people tripled up will be those volunteering. He also mentioned that he would not expect this tripling up to last all semester as natural attrition will free up spaces early in the Semester.

The letter situation has been beaten to death so I won't comment on that. However, I would like to ask - did General Ramirez specifically say that three-to-a-room would be on a volunteer basis? Maybe that's a new development, but it is absolutely NOT what we have been told in the band as of the end of last semester. We have all been told who we're rooming with and whether we're tripled and have had absolutely no say in the matter. The tentative rooming assignment plan for my outfit had every fish and pisshead tripled, about 80% of the butts tripled, and maybe one or two rooms worth of zips. I can't think of many that are tripled now that would have volunteered to do so.

He stated that the intent was to ask for volunteers and that, with the monetary credit being offered, his hope and expectation was that they would find enough volunteers.

He also stated that fish would absolutely NOT be tripled up under any circumstances.

Strange. I double checked and we definitely have fish tripled right now. Probably a miscommunication that'll get cleared up in the fall.

Did he happen to say anything about furniture in the triple rooms? That's the main reason most people are hesitant to triple - we're thinking we're probably not going to get an extra bed/desk/dresser for the third person.

Nah no mention of furniture with regards to those tripled up.

I've already made known my reaction to this letter, earlier in the thread.

You're dealing with an Old Army English teacher here. Words mean things. In the heat of an argument, we all misuse words. I was just pointing out that you misused one. No big deal.

It is a real stretch to try to claim that "tenacity" would ever be the word you want in that sentence. "Tenacity" often has positive connotations, and you are looking for a word that has only negative connotations.

"Audacity" or "temerity" are closer to what you mean, but "effrontery" would probably be better still.

Just giving you a hard time.....

To be fair, that was 27 pushups on his first PT test as a fish, but he also ran a 9:10 mile and a half. He was also apparently a really scrawny dude when he joined. But, he's still only barely able to pass the pushup portion of his PFTs. Either that or he's only stopping at the minimum (I can't remember what it is anymore but 42 sounds about right). I don't want to judge this kid without knowing him, but he looks like someone who likes getting away with doing the minimum required, both on the PFTs and apparently in the Corps as well.

It's only been a short amount of time since I've been out but what I have realized is there probably never has been and never will be a year when everyone says, "Man, this is the way the Corps should be".

You obviously were not in the same corps I was in.

@BQagx you're in the Band. You're separate from the rest of the Corps, like it or not. But you also get special privileges. Across the board. These are small sacrifices to make to be made as a member of the FTAB. The upperclassmen CTs triple up first, and then the fish if necessary. That being said, the Band doesn't play by the same rules. You earned the right to be different, but when things don't always work out, you have to look at the privilege of being in the Band as opposed to being a CT. You asked to be different. No CT on the planet wants to hear or will take you seriously when you complain. I know you wouldn't want to end up sharing a dorm with CTs. The Band operates differently and it always will. And they have certainly earned it. But until they build another Band dorm, you're kinda screwed. And what little knowledge I have of the Band, the fish should get tripled up first. If you can hack it, you don't have to triple up once you get past your first year. It's not hazing, it's not mean. It's weeding out the hacks. And, of all the outfits in the Corps, I would think the Band would understand that. Just my two cents. Which, in some countries, is worth 37 dollars and change.

General Ramirez specifically said it would be on a volunteer, hopefully temporary basis. NO fish will be tripled up. Also, the band has had to share dorms with CT outfits for at least the last 2 years. It's really not a big deal. It's not like they have leprosy or something.

It is a shame you young guys don't know the history of the band. Back in the 70's and 80's the first stoop of dorm 9 was used for band overflow when dorm 11 was full. We called it the leper colony!

And we HAD to go through Dorm 9 on our way on/off The Quad. Of course how many of my B-Battery fish buddies ever made it from the leper colony over to where B-Company was living on the 4th floor of Dorm 11? I'd say about zero.

I will say that one of the most impressive things I saw as a fish was when we were making our detour through Dorm 9 and Mike Lively '89 forgot one of my buddies names. He got down and knocked out a class set of 89 push-ups. I was very impressed.

There is lots of dumb crap the corps does, but this ******r talked about stuff that doesn't really matter. Although I liked what he said about stupid waste of time stuff we re forced to do. Like random march ins, volunteer work (big event was a complete joke), and football games. I hated the games... I would usually go sleep in my dorms after march ins. 4 years of sports passes down the drain.

Mike had been trained by the class of 1987 on being red ass, therefore he easily exhibited the same traits. Fortunately he was not corrupted by the class of 88 and their ways

So... since there are so many current cadets coming here to read this letter, let me make a few suggestions.

1) Quit looking like crap in uniform. Learn how to roll a tuck and shine your shoes/boots, and wear the Michael Jordan approved undershirts, the bacon collar is ugly. Remember, it's not toolish to look good in uniform.
2) Please learn how to march-in, stay in step, and have some semblance of military bearing while marching in. It's pretty nasty to watch you guys from the outside.
3) When you go to football games, please focus on the game on not playing grab-ass with your buddies in the stands. Maybe things have changed since JFF, but last time I sat in the student section a few rows behind the uniform block we kept missing yells because y'all would never pass them back.
4) Please say Howdy! I know the ipod and the cell phone have killed howdy, and most people don't make eye contact while walking, but my rule was to always say howdy if I made eye contact with anyone.

Wouldn't it be easier to just stop the idiocy of backwards undershirts? I never wore mine backwards after the fish year. Other than the vulva collar, nobody can even tell the difference

I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing a shirt backwards if it looks better. But, that doesn't really matter anymore since they don't make tagged white undershirts anymore. So everyone has to wear tagless undershirts the regular way, which is fine. But some brands for some reason look like crap, they stretch out, get wrinkled, and sometimes it's so bad you can't even see the undershirt. On the opposite spectrum you've got cadets that pin it up extra tight and it looks like they're wearing a turtle neck.

Unfortunately this is a sad reality of the Corps. It's not everyone, but it is way more than it should be. I've always had the feeling that it is this way because the military's every day uniform right now are fatigues.

I also assume that General Ramirez has this on his bucket list of things to fix in the next few years, but it is behind more important issues like enforcing ht/wt standards, getting rid of white belt apathy, and maintaining academics.
