Moderate celebration today.

Should I go all in and open the 2013 Scarecrow?
Or maybe 2020 The Mascot?
Otherwise it will be something from Rivers Marie.

I only have one MacDonald left so I will save that.

It depends on your definition of "moderate", but I would probably go with the 2020 Mascot. I don't trust 2020's enough to age them with the potential for smoke taint to become more apparent over time. Combine that with the fact that 2013 is a fantastic vintage and it would take a big celebration for me to open that Scarecrow that is capable of aging for a long time.

Can't go wrong with the scarecrow at the McDonald I would think the scarecrow needs a little bit of it to camp before you get started, but so will the McDonald depending on your vintage

For what it's worth, Mascot claims they harvested the grapes before the fires.

Love The Mascot. I got a 2015 for my birthday and it was fantastic.

I've enjoyed TD9 the couple of times I've had it. It's usually made with some purchase fruit, but I'd drink anything Elias makes.

Out with friends for dinner. Most preferred the Bordeaux, but both were excellent. Great example of big Napa cab versus the more subtle blend.

Had a surprisingly good wine from New Mexico tonight -- a 2019 DH Lescombes cabernet franc from New Mexico. Good fruit and spice mix.

Lescombes has a beautiful wine bar in Santa Fe called Herve. Highly recommend if you're ever there.

I don't have a photo with the wine just the bottle. Nice little magnum from Elyse.

Read some reviews on cellartracket saying it was starting to get past its prime so I was curious. This was a true crowd pleaser which is what I call a wine which is able to be enjoyed by newer unsophisticated drinkers and serious wine enthusiasts. Lots of cherry and vey balanced. Really enjoyable.

Ha. This is great. We had a magnum of 2008 Elyse Morisoli vineyard cab last night that was spot on. No bricking, light tertiary's, good fruit, well integrated tannins. It was in a great place. I'm glad I bought some of these older magnums on last bottle because they have all been good. We had the 2009 last year and it was also very good.

62 was in great shape. 82 was amazing as was the 2000 which is just entering its drinking window. Not a bad sip of wine on the table.

The 20 was pretty epic. At the end of the night, the somm told me that was his wine of the night in the entire restaurant (the sample tastes everything). I would definitely seek this out again.

Got back yesterday from three days in Johnson City/Fredericksburg. Our goal was to visit a lot of wineries/tasting rooms we'd never been to before (and some old standbys).

We made it to:

Farmhouse Vineyards
Silver Dollar Winery
Augusta Vin
Mountain Cross tasting room
Signor tasting room
Becker tasting room
Untamed Wine Estates
Signor Vineyards
Slate Theory Winery
Siboney Cellars

It always amazes me how much money has poured into that area in recent years. Some of these wineries are absolutely beautiful.

The new Signor tasting room in downtown Fredericksburg -- located in the historic 1880 Patton home just off Main Street -- is really well done. Of course, Augusta Vin is gorgeous. And I didn't know anything abut Untamed (California winemakers who moved to Texas) but the Coombsville cab I had there was perhaps the best wine of the week.

I had read lots of negative reviews about the staff at Slate Theory but everyone there was nice and helpful, even though it was clear we just wanted to sit and sip.

I'm really glad these wineries still allow wine by the glass or bottle vs. expensive tastings. We were obviously there midweek but the big name places had steady streams of customers so hopefully the industry downturn isn't hurting too badly.

Awesome! Will do ... thanks for the offer.

This was our third trip to FBurg in the last two years but there are still a ton of places we've never visited.
