Guard and Grace is good on the west side of downtown. If you are willing to drive a bit your options are endless.

Thanks fellas. I'll be driving into town, so I don't mind traveling a little bit. Figured y'all would know a good spot because of all the bottles that are always posted on here.

Rosie cannon ball is a good call, they will allow you to order off the wine list from March…it's a magnificent list.

Pappas downtown will also have an amazing list.

Very curious about Elk. I travel to California quite a bit but never been there.

The coastline north of the Bay Area is a wonderful place. Great choice.

We did Timber Cove for part of our honeymoon and went back once for an anniversary. Farther south than Elk, in Jenner. The whole swath of coastline there is something else though.

Stopped at timber cover for a drink on the patio earlier today. Also a very cool place.

Everything live up to expectations at Harbor House? Making the loop from Santa Rosa up thru Boonville to Mendocino and down the 1 with a night or 2 there is targeted for our next wine trip.

If that's your birth year on that champagne I have a lot of work to do to get to that point by the time I'm 40. New goals set!

Wife's birth year!

Some of you guys are way more experienced at ordering wine, so I wanted to get your thoughts.

Ordered a bottle at a wine bar last night. Server poured me a customary taste. The aroma coming from the glass was beyond funky, but the small taste I had seemed okay. I've never sent a bottle back before and didn't want to make a fuss, so I told the server it was fine.

She poured everyone a glass and walked off, and the immediate reaction from everyone after tasting it was "something is wrong with this wine." I felt the same way after a second taste.

Wasn't sure if it was proper to say something after the fact, but no one was going to drink it, so I mentioned it to the server when she returned. Hence my question:

At what point it is too late to return a wine? Was it cool for me to say something?

To her credit, the server took the bottle back and didn't charge us. She said she saw the face I made when I first got a sense of the aroma and thought something might be wrong.

you did just fine. definitely say something. the establishment will make it up in sales with you when they treat you correctly.

that wine they just let the employees suck down after their shift
