Yep. No point in hiring a boring retread who would likely get us to the tourney every 2 years or so and win a couple first round games. Go for the fences. At least we now have excitement and hope. And if it doesn't work out, try again in a few years.
Yeah, watching teams shooting in the 300s on kenpom is excruciating. Buzz' OR% and TO creating D scheme pulled out a lot of games with character. But the SEC is a gauntlet...and we'd get buzzsawed for a 4-6 game streak in the SEC every year.WallyWonka said:

Samford had a good second half against an underperforming Kansas squad.
It's a gamble - I hope Buckyball translates as McMillan adjusts.

If your first experience with watching basketball was Buzz you'd think it's played completely different than it usually is. It was a unique experience.
Buzz made me question if the objective of an offensive possession was to put the basketball into the basket
My windows of dedicated Fandom have been: Rockets with Olajuwon, BCG and Buzz. Definitely a limited cross-section and purely from a fan perspective, my playing career topped out at HORSE in the driveway.
Hopefully he brings some Samford players...or we buy some players since we couldn't get a bigger name coach. Do we at least have a walk on or two on our current roster?

There was a 0.0% chance we were going to get a splash hire. It has never happened in the history of A&M basketball and there's no reason to think it was going to happen here. Maybe this new guy will work out...maybe he won't. We have no idea. We are not a destination job for college basketball coaches. Either Bucky will do poorly and he'll get fired...or he'll do well and get hired away by a better program.
Until we change the culture at A&M, it is always going to be that way. Until we care about anything other than a.) football and b.) obsessing over Texas, we will just be a so-so basketball program that won't have the ability to attract splash hire type coaches.
I'm perfectly fine with this hire. Hope he does well and becomes the most legendary head coach in Aggie hoops history. Hopefully this guy isn't just a "grab the money from A&M and get lazy" like some of our football coaches have done.

And then this belief A&M is a football school, but there's no evidence we are that, other than spending like one. Alabama, Auburn and Florida are football schools, and they've somehow figured out how to be successful in basketball.
I like this hire, time to embrace it and potentially change the way we look at basketball.

No evidence this is a football school? Cmon now. It's not about success or the lack thereof in the football program. Its about where the resources are. Where the fans show up. A&M is definitively a football school.
Im on board with the hire and agree that being a football school does not preclude basketball success. But be real now.

Offensively yes, some of the coaches on here might have even better comps but Alabama is similar offensively. The big difference is the pressing defense. It's been a minute since anyone tried this kind of defense at this level.
Coming in with zero scholarship players. Is 12 wins the ceiling next year? Even that depends on what mercenaries are still available in the portal.
