What? I'm confused on the PC part. JJ is an awful umpire. We discussed it all through this thread.

Sorry trouble. I actually came in late. I just know there is a philosophy of never blame the umpires out there, and I understand why for sure. This guy tonight was heavily one sided. When pitches in the oppo box are called strikes for their pitchers, and Praeger is squeezed, it is practically impossible to overcome. But we came close despite it. I am seeing a pattern across sports. No holding call on our opponents for over 9 straight games in football. Now you know why Stewart is tearing it up in the combine but had only something like 2 sacks last season.
I hate tu. It's in my blood.

I never would have expected the team to look so lost at the plate with our hitting coach still in the ballpark.

This observation should convince anyone with a brain cell that Earley was NOT our hitting coach….that may have been his title, but he damn sure wasn't THE hitting coach….
He absolutely was, and has an excellent track record as a hitting coach. He is elite in that role.

Was he? Or was the dictation by the head coach on how the offense should be handled, coached, and controlled the main influence?

I am not saying I know the answer but we ought to begin asking the question
Do you know his track record? Look at what hitters say about him from his time at ASU.

I know the track record and hitters at ASU saying they liked him. I also see with my own eyes.
What did you see the last 3 years? It's fair to doubt Earley as a manager, but not as a hitting coach.
And if it wasn't Earley then who was it? Because that's who pos said it was and that's who he wanted in Austin...

Then why are we terrible now?
Because he isn't doing the same this year? If you have stars you can read staff posts about how the approach has changed quite a bit - first pitch swings, k rate, bb rate, etc. We are not doing what we did the previous 3 at the plate.

Yeah, I'm genuinely curious why we have started taking first pitch swings this year. The approach to sit on it last year worked in our favor so often.
That is a Schloss thing. I hoped it would continue under Earley.

We were doing it early in the season and the results were even worse.

Wasn't he on our list this last year, and he essentially made it clear he wanted to stay in Tuscaloosa? I remember his name being brought up a bunch because of his connection to the area and A&M

We interviewed him. He said no thanks.
Questions - did we make him a serious offer? Why are there others who say they know him and would want the job? So is he completely off of the list going forward?

Sorry but it's on the players. It's in their head now because they were on cruise control and bought the #1 hype. When other teams don't roll over, they don't know what to do. Seriously, this season was almost predictable because of the stupid ass hero worship Aggies tend to place on their athletes...."Everyone slapping them on the back, telling them how great they are...."

We continue to roll with Joni Taylor after 3 awful years. Prepare for Earley to stay for his contract. We're not going to fire coaches with multiple years on their contracts while we continue to pay Jimbos buyout.

No kidding - I outlasted Childress when it was obvious we would never win in Omaha with him. We got it right with Schloss, but were also screwed by him. He's a snake.

Unfortunately, it's going to take a ton of cash to save the program (getting the right coach and NIL).

It won't take a ton. We just spent a ton and got the most underwhelming result we could ever think of. Actually it was unthinkable to all of us. Anyone saying they thought we'd be where we are at this point was in any way a possibility is talking out of their ass.

So if the season continues without marked improvement we could and should absolutely make a change and spend what it takes to get a top level coach, or spend lower to get a proven up and comer and hit the 1 year reset.

But we won't.

You don't fire Earley unless you have a replacement lined up, and only giving a brand new head coach 1 year isn't a good look. He has 3 major injuries to start the season to deal with.

Trev needs to give it a look at the end of the season if things god really bad. Maybe talk to some players. But 1 bad season isn't a great reason to fire a coach unless you are sure he isn't the guy.

Was the late timing an issue? If we really did talk to 13 people (according to the broadcast this evening), I think interviewing a week before freshman check in was a huge turn off.

Will cost us 1 mil or more depending on assistant salaries to get rid of this staff. Add on a buyout for the coach we hire, money for his salary, & NIL. Then remember we were supposed to renovste our stadium next year. Yea it's gonna take money. We'll be awful for several more years if we dont pull the plug this season imo.

it's Trev's job to convince the baseball NIL donors to move their money to the contract buyout

much of this year's NIL budget is for players that will go to the draft or will be out of eligibility

so their departures should easily free up $1 MM to $2 MM in NIL

I we toss a coach after one season it is going to cost extra just to get any quality coach to leave where they currently coaching weather someone that is established or an up and comer on the rise.. I'm not saying we should keep Earley because of this, I just don't think we're going to get anyone on the cheap.

You are correct in a vacuum but Earley isn't you're regular 1st year hire. He was hired to maintain the momentum gained from last season and keep the roster together. If we squander that momentum in year 1 there is no point in keeping him on.

It is not a 1:1 situation like if we were to have hired a brand new coach who would've had to start from scratch. Basically a step above interim due to the timing. It has been a failure thus far. It is what it is. I didn't hate the thought process then and I still don't, just didn't work out. Hope it turns around quick and is a moot point.

Players may have gotten him an interview, but coach got the job based on his own merits. This "players picked the coach" narrative is getting old.
