Results
A lot of those results are due to having to go longer in a game because of lack of bullpen and run support. Once again his era is 3.35. That is a good era.
Actually that's pretty damn good.
I'm not denying that a competent offense eases his struggles. He still looks worse.

Why do some pitchers pitch from the stretch when no one is on base?
Not only will it probably be a long time again before Earley is a head coach but he's also done terrible damage to his reputation as a hitting coach. These guys approach just looks like they're clueless and scared.

He had a 2.95 ERA last year. 3.57 ERA in conference play last year. Through 3 starts in conference play he has a 7.41 ERA this year. He has a 38/13 K/BB ratio so far. Down from 124/20 he had last year.

It's a timing thing. A lot fewer moving parts from the stretch and easier to have a repeatable delivery. It becomes a comfort thing.

Sorry but I'm not just going to scapegoat Longley. It's not like Earley sits in the coaches office all practice and isn't working with hitters. Sure Longley sucks but Earley gets equal if not more blame for this offense.
