After USC led North Carolina 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, North Carolina scored 3 unanswered runs to defeat USC 4-3 in Game 3 to advance to the College World Series for the 13th time and 2nd time in 3 years.

That was nearing as bad as Arkansas's missed pop fly years ago in the title game. Or maybe Arky's was even worse technique.

Nowhere even close. While a makeable play and not good technique by the USC 3B it was not an easy play.. The one that cost pig a Championship was absolutely an easy play for all three Arky players around the ball.

I'm sorry, if Earley flames out next year you cut your losses and go balls out after Rob Vaughn. That guy just gets it done. I'm not sure that roster is as talented as it's performing

In hindsight, back in 2024 I would have gone after Vaughn with Earley (his old MiLB teammate) as his #2. Would have kept the roster and put an experienced guy at the helm. He was a wnderkind back at UMD. Kendall said he was shocked that we didn't make a more serious run, although I wonder if he would have left Bama after just one year (some suspected that may have been hard for him to do).

He's from Texas. Grew up in Kingwood. I think his dad is an Ag. But I think we might have messed that one up already not going hard last time. He seems entrenched there now.

That ball was hit in the perfect spot. Should it have been caught? Maybe. LF was there a little before him so probably his ball but that ball is coming back into them right by a net. Just a tough spot and would have been an underrated catch had someone caught it.


My point was not that it was an easy catch, but it could have been caught. I saw a number of pop up fouls that we missed that ended up costing us in the inning. And the center fielder was not in the best position for the last hit, but there will be a lot of should have could have second guessing on more than a single pitching decision.

I have heard we were going after him, switched to O Connor and when we missed on him we had burned our shot at Vaughn and Bama gave him a raise. It happens.

For sure, I agree. I like USC and was rooting for them to win it all. They just flat played perfect baseball and beat us. I liked how they play the game.

I heard that we made representations to Vaughn that we were (in principle) making an offer, then, shifted to O'Connor (at that point it was too late, he and State were 1st and goal at the 1). Then, Vaughn signed his new deal, O'Connor to State became official, and at that point, we stuck with Earley.

Per usual, Trev said "he was convinced in him after a productive conversation" but that was clearly the spin machine hiding the fact that we whiffed badly.

so the B1G is down to Oregon

the league got a lot of hype and praise this season

but may get shut out of Omaha

all those series vs. Iowa and Purdue and Minnesota and Rutgers and Northwestern and Penn State didn't help apparently

WVU's ballpark is exactly what I'd expect from that school......Weird angles, the majority of tarps off, and a Star Furniture in the background that you can see over left center field wall.



Spent many a weekend at Boshamer stadium as a grad student there. It was a nice consolation prize after 4 years at Olsen. Happy to see them in Omaha. Like the Ags, they were a few outs from winning it back in about 2005, and couldn't finish it.

UNC literally NOTHING like Ohio State. Like sips in academic stature, but the campuses are nothing alike. I guess if you want to talk basketball entitlement, fine. But they are one of about 5 schools actually entitled to do so.
