I'm hoping we are starting to plateau.
apparently not.

2 more hospitalizations.

It's surreal. I am less worried now than the beginning of this mess. I went to Home depot in Kyle and it is business as usual. The HEB in Kyle same. I can tell that people that are in the store don't give a rats ass about the virus. Wearing a mask and shopping.

That's exactly the attitude that reasonably healthy / younger people who are only around that demo (immediate family / friends) should have

Not all covid cases are created equal .... it's possible to be a responsible adult and still conclude "I'll probably get this if I keep doing normal summer things but oh well-I'm only around other people of similar risk level and I already work from home for the rest of the year anyway so let's roll the dice"

As a resident of Hays county I wish there was more transparent data. I would like to know where most of these positive cases were thought to have caught it. Not to condemn or blame a group for protests, BBQs or river tubing.

Honestly I want to know so that my family and I can be more aware of our risks, be more hyper aware of symptoms and the need to self-quarantine if needed. I have extensive family in Hays county that are in the at risk categories. I would hate to have exposed a loved one because I was not aware of the risk. The want of information is a health concern not a political one.

Problem is contact tracing can only go so far. I have been to the grocery store, pharmacy, take out food, Petco, work in Austin Etc.

The most likely place people are getting it are large crowds.

A friend in Austin went to a wedding party with 40 people in Travis County. Out of The 40, 29 got it. He didn't and he was just as close as everyone else to everyone.

Just a walk thru a store is not going to get you sick IMO. It has to be a longer exposure.

That's just not always true. I know a handful of people who have gotten it. One went to a large event (graduation). The others did not. The inconsistency in transmission and presentation is what makes this so challenging.

In general he's probably right. Not saying it's impossible, but they aren't likely to be the super spreading events. They aren't our issue. It's most definitely mass gatherings.

Not Hays county, but this is an interesting case of spread from one birthday party.

Why would you go to a birthday party with multiple people if you are battling breast cancer? These types of stories make me have less and less sympathy for people that are obviously compromised, but still do stuff like this.

The saddest part of all of these stories is the people dying alone in the hospital.

The grandmother didn't have cancer. In hindsight, the grandparents should have stayed at home.

I have learned through all of this that dealing with the grandparents (my parents) is the toughest.

For many of them (especially women) their quality of life revolves around being a grandma. It's what they planned and envisioned for, so to take that away from them is (to them) worse than any risk of getting sick.

Had a long talk with my mother last week about it. She's of sound mind, but her body has been failing. But she lives for my sister's kids. She retired 2 years ago and being super grandma is what she looked forward to in retirement.

Convincing them to stay at home and not see the kids on a regular basis is damn near impossible.

Was invited to a birthday party this weekend. Declined.

You guessed it. Two people that attended have since been confirmed with covid (linked to a concert in College Station apparently)

I agree that one is more likely to be infected by the grocery store than a large event, but I disagreed with him stating it like it's impossible to get sick at the store. The unpredictability of this virus sucks.

I was practicing social distancing at the grocery store before all this happened, get too close to me in line than be prepared to be crop dusted.

In hind sight, I guess Hays county was just a bit a head of it's time.

KXAN says that travis county now has less active cases than Hays. The bulk of the Hays county cases were 20-29 year olds from san marcos if i recall correctly. Why have these cases not been converted to recovered as I assume this age group would be recovering quickly and the bulk of our "active" cases should have been moved to "recovered"? How do they track recoveries?
The Fall Guy

I saw that also. I also assume the younger ones are not getting retested so they are not cleared.

But we also have a corrupt judge leading the charge so who knows. More money for the counties pockets??

I kinda thought that as well....younger folks get better quick and go on with life. Seems there might be an issue with the system if cases just sit in the active bucket for months because the person feels fine now and never retested.

My BIL in Brownsville never retested. It happens a lot I bet.

I would guess just based on the date of this thread when the spike started that our active cases are much lower than what is being reported.
