Yeah, most teenagers are super respectful to women. This was so off-base

In high school I never thought about getting girls so liquored up so I could basically rape them. Maybe you were different.

It's been a few years since I've seen it so I'm not sure about "rapping" girls as you put it, but 90% of high school and college dudes throw parties for one reason: to get girls drunk.

Of course a TexAgs thread about a popular, 16-year-old comedy resulted in disparaging its audience via name-calling, followed by rape accusations. JFC.

I'm not sure how Superbad is any different than American Pie. Stiffler is worse than any character on Superbad.

I hadn't seen Superbad for a while and had memories of it being funny but dragging. I watched it this spring the night before a serious surgery because I wanted something fun.

It was so much better than I remember. Hilarious start to finish with barely a drag. I get why if you're older (like 40s+) you might not "get it". But anyone that's 28-38 right now it would be really relatable and an absolute riot.

American Pie is a good movie, but it's not really that funny.

Superbad is top 10 all time.

No. I think my husband hated it more than I did. The only people who think that movie was funny are guys who were losers in high school.

I was not a loser in high school by any means, went to A&M in the fall of 2006, slammed smokin hot babes left and right during my time in College Station, went to law school, came out making six figs and only up from there, got married to an awesome gorgeous girl, have a few kids, and a net worth of several million in my mid 30s /nonhumblebrag

So not a loser but a jerk. The other audience for superbad.

How rude. I am a very nice person. You seem to have some deep seeded resentment about something though. I hope you find the happiness and fulfillment you're looking for.

Well. between the bragging guy and the rape insinuations, this thread has definitely taken a turn.

But anyway, hilarious movie. One of the quick, subtle lines that kills me every time is when the cops ask McLovin if he's familiar with Yoda and then name Attack of the Clones of all Star Wars movies to clarify. Why Attack of the Clones?

The funniest moment of the entire movie is when Jonah Hill gets hit by the car, and I won't hear any argument to the contrary.

Isn't your opinion of this specific type of comedy pretty much going to come down to your age? Superbad isn't in my top 5 of these lists of 00s, maybe not even near the top at all, but I did like it and think it was very funny. I'm just not all that interested in rewatching it really.

I kinda prefer Not Another Teen Movie from the 00s, honestly, but really only because its making fun of teenage comedies that I prefer from the late 90s because I'm that age.

No way. They kind of made him one later in the sequels, but in American Pie he's an antagonist. He's not one of the four that we see together at the conclusion of the movie, he's also not a virgin like the protagonist four are, which drives the entire plot of the film.

A protagonist doesn't necessarily have to be a good guy
JJxvi

His role in that movie is to be a dick to the main characters. He gets them in trouble, forces each one of them into embarrassing situations, and then at the end one of the protagonists gets over on him by ****ing his mom. He wasn't intended to be a protagonist. He is the antagonist of that movie. The plot revolves around the protagonists, which are the virgins trying to get laid.

He's still one of the five main male characters. The point of my post was to point out that Stiffler was a bigger ******* to women than any character in Superbad.

And the entire point of the movie is Seth and Evan realizing what idiotic children they are for their preconceived notions about how to talk to women.

I don't think Stifler ever learns anything.
JJxvi
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm sure if it was remade now, with the understanding that Stiffler is a main character in a larger franchise, he probably would have learned something and had his own arc or whatever. But he didnt learn anything in American Pie because American Pie isnt about him, he was the villain, so yeah he was supposed to be an *******, that was like his whole role in the movie.

Maybe I've just grown out of the target demographic and they are still making these movies, but it really feels like Superbad is the last of the, "Dudes trying to get laid before college" genre of movies. These movies were everywhere in the 80s and 90s. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any in the past 20 years (or at least any good ones).
