Did anyone notice the Madame Web Trailer drop? I wasn't even aware this was a thing… I assume it's in universe?

Don't want to drop a potential spoiler, but it looks like they're setting up a major villain for future movies that Sony will likely never get to.

Rumor is, Adam Scott is playing Uncle Ben.

Also, this was my reaction in the movie release dates thread. A day later and I think I'm even more confused...

This is truly bottom of the barrel superhero stuff right here. Like, what the hell even is this? Dakota Johnson is a paramedic who can see the future because of a freak accident but her mom was involved in some kind of spider incident back in the day and so Johnson is called "Madame Web" for some reason but also Sydney Sweeney & friends are Power Ranger Spiders or something? Also, was that Adam Scott with only a single line? Did I have a stroke halfway through this? What is going on???

It's been a minute since I saw a trailer that had such an extreme amount of exposition, but confused the ever loving hell out of me at the same time. Gives me Wonder Woman 1984 vibes of terrible. This has awful all over it.

Is it a spoiler if nobody's going to watch it?

Exactly, I think they might be going the Morlun and Spider-Totems direction.

That line was so bad I had to pause it and text my friends about it. I'm so glad the internet is running with it. That trailer had nothing to do with spiders until then!

This was inevitable, and obviously makes sense for Sony, but sucks for basically everyone else....

I've seen some sketchy RPK over the years so I hope and pray this isn't true hahah. But I guess I'm surprised Sony waited this long to make it happen. I mean, 3 whole Venom films without Spider-Man?

Agreed, but he's really come around in the last year or so. It sounds like he's slowly but surely acquired better sources. Even this week he was credited in either Variety or The Hollywood Reporter with first breaking a story, and those outlets are as legit as they come.

What does merge with the MCU mean, exactly? Each company gets to be in and use characters from the other? Why is that bad for everyone else?

That thick beard makes me suspect Kraven was with my mom in the Amazon researching spiders right before she died

I think he's basically just saying that this iteration of Spider-Man/Peter Parker - who has only appeared in MCU movies so far, even though he's a Sony property - will finally start interacting with the rest of the Sony Spider-Universe. Meaning Venom, Morbius, Kraven, Madame Web, etc can appear in Spider-Man 4. And if there also happens to be a Doctor Strange or whoever else - any other MCU characters - in Spider-Man 4, those MCU characters will also obviously interact with the Sony Spider-Universe characters now as well, in this movie.

And that's "bad" only because the Sony stuff is considered to be so much worse, quality-wise, than the MCU stuff (even as of late). It can basically be seen as bringing the MCU down to Sony's level, but hopefully Feige & co still have a level of influence/quality control.

At some point soon I'm afraid the weight of all this sh*t is just going to collapse in on itself. We may already be there. Either way, there are far too many shows, movies, branches, timelines, studios, etc to keep track of for any of this to make any damn sense at all. For both Spider-Man and the MCU at large.
Bruce Almighty

That actually makes sense considering how those characters tie together in the comics.

As someone who follows this stuff more than most, for instance, right now, I still have no f-ing clue if the Venom/Morbius movies technically take place during the events of the MCU or not. Obviously, they're separate studios. But is Venom in the same universe as Holland's Spider-Man, and they just haven't interacted yet? Or are they in different universes that will soon be merged?

Agreed. It's when they start throwing in all the Sony crap on top of this that makes my head spin.

So it's Venom, Morbius, Kraven and Madam Webb elbowing into cameos in Spider-Man 4 for MCU clout, or adding Tom Holland into their own movie (eventually) for Spider-Man clout.

The only thing those characters have in common is Spider-Man… and yet their origins have all circumvented the missing Spidey problem. So I don't know how it'll happen - but I'm sure Sony will handle it with the grace and nuance of the time that man was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.

I think, given the post credit scene in No Way Home, Venom - at least - was in a different universe than Holland's Spidey. One of those movies also ended with Michael Keaton in prison and not knowing wtf was going on, or something. Then there was the meet up with Vulture and Morbius. On the one hand, the last of those items indicates Morbius is in the same universe as Holland's Spidey. Then again, maybe somehow Vulture escaped into the Venom side of things during No Way Home?

yeah, you're right...who the f-ck knows.

edit: oh, and I think a piece of the symbiote was left behind in MCU after Tom Hardy's Venom was sent back to his region of the multiverse.

It wasn't his account. I think it was news leaked from his Patreon, so maybe they took it down to honor that.

Yeah the Morbius post-credits are the worst ever made. The first is Michael Keaton appearing in a separate universe, and they don't have any ID in this guy so they let him out of prison. The second is Morbius in a desert, and he meets up with Vulture (arbitrarily in the Vulture suit) and he says "I don't know how I ended up here but I think it has something to do with Spider-Man. Anyway some of us should team up sometime" and Morbius says "intriguing."

Total horse****. Not to mention that NWH pulled people who knew Spider-Man's identity into his universe, not pushing them into some other arbitrary universe where there is no Spider-Man.
