I actually enjoyed it....seemed like they were going for a futuristic reality where people in the future are still screw ups as opposed to the ST world where they are all robots and try for perfection. They goof off at times, they crack jokes on the bridge when the captain is out particularly, they have weird quirks and needs, some of them are prejudiced against other aliens or even humans, they BS and brag about stuff and make weird holodeck fantasies (to network standards). These people are also on a mid level ship so not the best of the best.
I'll stick with it a while for sure.
I found it to be "trying too hard" maybe? I couldn't put my finger on it. But Pilots are rarely good, so I will stick with it.
It had a few pretty funny lines where I could see what they were trying to do - more like a Star Trek meets mild Idiocracy...
The coke on the bridge bit was decent. I think they were trying to be funny and take shots at Star Trek when the Lead Scientist kept telling them, "Wait, I can't tell you here, follow me to where we can talk" (i.e. into some trap). It was a bit bizarre.
I liked the blue alien at the beginning with the blue splat. I thought the CGI was just good enough - but some of the transitions were very lengthy like the effects department were just trying to make time... so it didn't really transition well.
The dialogue was very clunky and "You speak..." pause "now you speak" pause "now I speak again"...
My favorite character was the male-only alien who
is about to have an egg - he was like Klingon meets Drax from GotG
