I watched the series opener of the Orville and hated it. I enjoyed some of the shows from last year but this one was without merit. I almost just turned it off but occasionally they have a show that is a bust. This one was NOT funny. I was hoping that the show would improve from last year but not so far...maybe next week.

If you are watching this as a comedy you aren't doing it right. It's basically a light hearted Star Trek that has some hilarious moments but also some interesting and deep stories.

It's taking a space odyssey and making it more relatable.

Enjoyed the first episode, seems like the cast hasn't skipped a beat.

Glad Alara won't be going out with that geeky alien dude. She's smoking hot, deserves much better, like me.
I believe she is dating Seth McFarlane.

I believe Halston Sage(?) was dating him, but not anymore. Iirc Alara is supposed to be leaving this season.

Agreed.... it's not Spaceballs or even Galaxy Quest.

It really is just Star Trek but with a crew made of average talent people instead of the best of the best. It's a middling ship with a middling crew of somewhat misfits. They will never get plum assignments a mid level ship is the best they can hope for. Every crew member has issues and character flaws.

It's like what real people would become in the future - not everyone gets smarter and better. Some are just average.

And it's occasionally funny because they are average, or because they are in over their heads or make poor decisions like ordinary people do.

To me it's Star Trek: The Everyman

She was dating him, then they broke up, then they decided to write her out of the show.. then they got back together. Not sure if they still are

The dangers of porn addiction? Definitely not a show for kids like Star Trek was.

Personally, I would prefer more comedy and less preaching, but if other people are loving this show, so be it.

I assume you're being facetious, and you'd have a point if I had actually extended the comparison to Star Trek beyond my first comment.

Last nights episode was just a little creepy and edgy, but that's hoe MacFarlane likes his humor.

Looks like Tyra also got a boob job, last year she had no chest.

As much as I hated the first show of the season, I liked this one. That is why I continue to watch the show...since so many of the shows on TV are consistently bad!

Is Alara getting written out just because of her relationship with Seth McFarlene? If so, thats ****ty. Just started tonight's episode and looks like they're setting this up.

Maybe it's that or she asked to leave? Probably won't hear about it until Halston Sage comments about it like Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) of TNG fame. Well her character's first death anyways.

I enjoyed the episode last night. Although, since her species prizes intellectual strength so highly, I would have preferred that Alara outwit her family's captors to show dad that she has a different but still valuable sort of intelligence, not just miraculously overcome her debilitated condition and kill them.

Sucks that she's left the show. I hope she comes back to open the jar of pickles.

I enjoyed all the Star Trek actors brought in for this last episode even if the episode itself was only meh. Also with all the character building this show does, it also sucks to lose a major one this early in the series. Especially since it looks they're going to replace her with another frat boy.

Eh.... I remember reading that Jessica Szohr was cast to replace her and was at a panel sometime last year. So I don't know how long Patrick Warburton will be sticking around.

That makes me feel a little better. I think Warburton is awesome, but there's plenty of dude-bros on the show already

Per comic book.com, "home" was officially Halston Sage/Alara's last episode but the option is still there if she would like to return. No specific reason was provided.

This episode reminded me of ones from DS9 (Quark and Odo stranded on a planet) and TNG (when LaForge was abducted or when Riker was abducted).

This show has been fairly hit or miss for me but I have to admit I laughed out loud at the whole robot in the wife beater trying to break up with the doctor bit. That was pretty damn funny.

I found last night's episode in the same vein as when Tasha Yar wants Data and he tells her he is fully functional and programmed in many techniques.

Did anybody watch last night's episode? I was VERY impressed! Seeing Isaac's homeworld was very fascinating, and I must admit - the twist in the episode I was not expecting at all. Next week's episode should be fantastic, I'm not sure how our crew is going to be able to get out of this one. I guess it's safe to assume Isaac won't be returning when it's all said and done?

Is anybody around here still keeping up with this show? I know it isn't as deep for discussion as say True Detective or something, but this season has been really high quality and I'm hoping it'll get renewed again.
