Pretty sure it's satire.
i know, I'm just getting tired of stuff like this everywhere. There are many other subjects to work with.

And yes, I'm a grumpy old man.
Already started yelling at clouds huh?

After the last session, I had just about decided to stop watching. The humor just plan stupid. (Yeah I am a crotchey old ****). Well I watched the one this evening and was surprised. The idiotic humor was held to a minimum and there was actually a story that caused you to have to think a little. (Remember the original ST that had the two guys one black on one side and white on the other...I think it was "...but what of Lazarus")

Anyway they have earned my attention for a while. I was really wanting this thing to be OK...I am not paying extra to watch ST Discovery.

I noticed in a commercial the other night they said "watch season 1 on CBS All-Access" which made me think maybe they are having second thoughts about an online only version and will eventually transition to regular TV.

I understand that some people enjoyed this latest episode, but I prefer laughs over lectures.

This show isn't funny, and Seth McFarland needs acting lessons.

I'm out.

And that's what I suspected based on the topic. I did record it last night and will give it one more shot.

I do disagree on the "funny" part. The secondary characters like the helmsmen are pretty humorous.

What were you people expecting?

This is a man that is a millionaire based on a cartoon about a dog that smokes pot.

Is it deep?
No, but I do think the last episode had a bit of a point.

He isn't a great actor. But the show is amusing enough for me. I'm sticking with it.

I thought there were some really funny things in there. The weapons firing, the oaths, a. few more. I'm enjoying it.

I wasn't planning to post on this thread again, but since you asked...

So, only positive comments are welcome? That's stupid. It's a new show, champ. I'm sure that some people are curious about both the good and the bad at this point.

It's precisely because of Family Guy, etc. that I was expecting more comedy and less morality teaching. His other shows are full of social commentary, but they manage to be lot funnier than this one.

I don't care if you like it or not.

Just I'm not sure why you announced to the world that you are out. It's interesting that the best episode to date has you out.

This show is a heck of a lot better than the first season of TNG.

Well I don't care if you care, but by all means, let's keep arguing over whether or not I should have posted my opinion about a new show in a forum.

Maybe next time, I should remove the "I'm out" comment to avoid idiotic retorts, but then again, it's a new show. So, it's probably fair for you to expect that at this point, some of the comments will be made by folks who have decided that they don't like the show and aren't going to continue watching.

All Sci-Fi is a bit campy! Relax and enjoy the show. AP is beautiful, the graphics and costumes are great. It's fun for it's genre.

I'm waiting for Taylor Kitsch to guest star!

You're sure spending a lot of time justifying yourself.

Nope, didn't like it. Mercer, et al., tried to impose human ethics and customs on another culture that didn't agree with theirs.

The only one I respected was the doctor who refuse to perform the procedure on the baby because she wasn't able to decide for herself. If only doctors in this country had the same ethics.

Actually, I've already spent too much time explaining what would be painfully obvious to you if your pride would allow you to either shut up or simply admit that you're out of line and move on like I'm going to now.

Enough said on this. Do yourself a favor and go find some other nit to pick.

The second episode put me to sleep, and I didn't know "antizoo" is a thing for people. What is episode 3 about? Hating waterparks?

I feel very strongly that The Orville is mediocre.

What the hell are you guys talking about?

What is Star Trek Discovery? What is The Orville?

Seth McFarlane, the creator of family guy, American dad, etc, is doing a live action spaceship show on fox called the Orville.

CBS is doing a new star trek series set between kirk and picard chronologocally and it is available only on cbs' app, "cbs direct" or somesort.

Only read first page so I don't spoil any of The Orville so this might've been mentioned...

Star Trek Discovery shows up on my PS Vue as a normal CBS show (Houston KHOU CBS), and I can DVR it. I don't pay for the CBS All Access app. You should be able to DVR it like normal. Guessing that's some marketing or branding attempt to bring attention the app or perhaps after initial airing the on demand will be behind the pay wall. It won't cost you $6 per month to watch initially unless maybe you miss DVRing it.

I really enjoyed the first episode of The Orville. Agree it's suppose to just be about to average Joe's of the space military. I laughed out loud several times. Planning to watch E2 & 3 today.

WRONG.

the FIRST episode is on CBS the broadcast channel. the entire rest of the season is ONLY on CBS All Access......they are trying to get people to watch and then want the pay service to continue.

Try to find the second episode next week.....you won't.

Note: It will also be on Netflix but NOT in the US. So you would have to do some shenanigans to make it think you are outside the US.

Okay, I've really enjoyed the humor & setting thus far but...

Felt the anti-zoo & gender change plot points were less satire & more using the show as a political platform. The all male thing started funny but got real very quick. My wife only saw the trial and was confused because there was zero humor in that section which was a large chunk of the episode. Hope they steer a bit more clear of PC hot buttons. I watch TV shows to escape the mess I hear on talk radio and the news all day.

Overall I thought E4 was solid. Much better story than E3 IMO. Some of my favorite jokes:
- Explaining d*ck jokes to robot/Isaac & isolated humans
- Awkward elevator discussion
- Coitus & sexual inadequacy talk from robot/Isaac
- Lamarr celebration on bridge

..sure I missed some.

E5 looks like it could really be catching it's stride from preview.
