It is going to be interesting with the academy awards that is for sure. Good year with incredibles and this in the same year. Good chance a superhero film will win an award

You unabashedly love Star Wars, Marvel, the DCEU, and all things Disney, but you have "zero interest" in seeing this??? Not knocking you at all, it's just that this has to be one of the most baffling posts I've ever seen on this board. I would have thought for sure you'd be all over this.
Says the guy who is fanboying over a Transformers movie.

I'm a fan of comic book movies, but just not animated ones. Not a fan, what can I tell you.

This movie IS a comic book come to life. It is beyond animated. Best Spider-Man I have seen... and one of the best Superhero movies I have seen. Must see.

That was just incredible.

Having seen the first 30 minutes or so (up to the graveyard scene) I had an idea of what to expect but...wow.

This has the best Spidey sequences we've ever seen on film, is incredibly genuine and heartfelt, and is just visually stunning. The big action set piece at the end of the film is absolutely nuts.

I can't wait to go see it again. And be sure to stay ALL the way till the end.

As in post credit scenes? Our family is excited to see it. My 7 year old daughter especially. I've turned her into a Spidey fan.

Went in skeptical. That was pretty dope, not gonna lie. Much better than it has any right to be.

Thanks to this thread for getting me in the theater for this one.

Also, not only is the animation great but the 3D is fantastic. I recommend it if it's available to you.

Spot on description. Comic book come to life. Really enjoyed all the references to Tobey Spider-Man.

Really good. Not sure I loved it as much as some, but very glad I saw it. Loved the whole aesthetic and the inside references and the hand-drawn aspects. My only reservation is I thought the final act was a little TOO over the top and it lost a little cohesion. It is absolutely a comic book come to "life" and for that they deserve every ounce of possible credit.

I wonder if this movie wasn't Sony trying to make audiences comfortable with the idea of a multiverse before introducing that in Homecoming 2? (Which apparently seems to take place in an alternate universe.)

If not, seems like a pretty weird coincidence.

One of the voices was very didtinct and familiar, but I couldn't place it. Saw who it was in the credits and said out loud "well I'll be damned." Really solid voice talent all around.

Who are you referencing? I knew most of them because I had looked it up on IMDB before.

I'll say I was confused at first with Peter Parker. I was thinking to myself, "OK, that is definitely Chris Pine, not Jake Johnson..."
I even thought something had happened in post production and they had completely replaced him. Of course it made perfect sense eventually, and was a really good decision by the directors

Also, I would avoid looking at the IMDB credits beforehand...

The Doc Ock reveal was really cool and the whole theater went nuts when that happened. And Nic Cage was such a great choice for Spider Man Noir. I would've enjoyed not knowing that beforehand

Wait do you mean Far From Home? Where was it confirmed that It would be in an alternate universe?

Random funny voice cast related thing. After seeing that early preview screening I couldn't place the voice of Spidey at the beginning and it was killing me. I didn't see Chris Pine in the credits on IMDB when I looked a few weeks ago, then I caught a mention on tv this week that he was an additional voice and was like "OHHHHhhhhhh."

And the reaction the crowd gave at our preview during the initial intro with the "I even did this" Spidey 3 dance may be one of the purest moments of joy I've ever heard in a movie theater.

Both my kids loved it. They said it was their favorite super hero movie. I enjoyed it a lot, but it's not my favorite Spider-Man. I did enjoy the Miles Morales take on things. I thought it was a creative way to "reboot" the franchise (or introduce an alternate universe). The animation style was the coolest part in all of it, imo. I've never seemed an animated movie like that before. It really has the comic book feel. I hope this introduces a new MCU of animated movies.

So how did Sony manage to include non-Spidey characters? What is the contractual situation? Is animation just more forgiving?

Seemed like it was more at the time, I guess because there were SO many characters, but looking through the cast, Kingpin for sure. Not that he isn't a frequent Spidey villain, but we know that the MCU has claim to him.

I also felt like there were other references to the Avengers but they may have been slight enough to not matter.

There's been a few characters that have fallen into a gray area as they were prominent in more than one comic (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being the primary example).

Kingpin would definitely fall into that category, he was a primary Daredevil villain but also has a pretty extensive history with Spider-Man.

Yeah, I can't decide if I like this better than Homecoming. It was my favorite movie of the year.

How quickly so many forget Spiderman 2. Many considered it the best superhero movie outside of the Dark Knight trilogy.
