I wanted to back-up this statement. The movie is heavy on action and "inside jokes" about Spiderman. I really enjoyed it, but my wife did not. She didn't get a lot of the jokes and the action/animation just wasn't something that really interested her. Just providing expectations. I thought it was a lot of fun and really cool.G Martin 87 said:Dissenting opinion here. The movie does an efficient job of covering enough origin story detail to understand what's going on with no prior exposure to the comics. I've read a handful of comics over the years, none of them Spider-Man comics. Honestly, this is my favorite movie of the year. A better gauge would be your tolerance for intense, chaotic action sequences. If that sort of thing is boring or frustrating for you, then you may want to skip it. I loved it, but my wife didn't.Philo B 93 said:jenn96 said:
Okay, I barely remember the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and haven't seen any of the newer ones, and have never read a Spider-Man comic. Obviously I'll miss all the inside jokes and Easter egggs, but will the movie make sense or do you need some knowledge of the comic history to really "get" it? I'm completely intrigued by the reviews, I just feel like I don't know enough of the backstory to appreciate it. Does the movie explain itself well enough for a Spidey virgin to really enjoy?
I would not recommend this movie for you. It will seem like any other cartoon you could see on Netflix or YouTube, and you'll be a little disappointed since the reviews have set an impossible bar.
However, if curiosity has gotten a hold of you and won't stop until you see it, you might as well give in. Won't hurt or cost much.
Also, I did see it in 3D. I can't remember if I've ever seen a movie in 3D other than at the museum, but it was phenomenal and I highly recommend it as others have.
Is 3D technology being used properly now for other movies? I've always dismissed it as an option, but I may be missing out based on how good this was to watch in 3D. Curious to hear others thoughts on this.
