I should have read the comments above more closely. I saw great, and my wife and I were going to the movies, so we went. Didn't realize it was a cartoon.

I saw it and enjoyed it. The animation and movie looked like I should have been wearing glasses. I'm almost wondering if the showed the wrong 3D film in our non 3D theater. Not because it looked amazing, but because there were so many shadows and second lines in the drawings. It was a little distracting.
Did I see the wrong print of the movie?
I wondered the same thing, but I figured out it was a style choice when it wasn't consistent.Philo B 93 said:

They wanted to make it feel like a comic come to life so did lots of little things like simulating overprint like you'd sometimes see in old print ads (where the colors wouldn't line up quite right) and adding in visual cues for sound effects.Philo B 93 said:

Honest question: why does the medium mean you can't appreciate the movie?Ferg said:
Yup, serious, thought it was just another marvel movie with the kid who is in some of their other flixs. I guess if I had one of my grandchildren with me, I may have appreciated it more.

I am telling you man... for everyone who complains that Hollywood is out of ideas and unoriginal... for everyone tired of super hero movies or thinks they are formulaic...
See. This. Movie.

On the way back into the theater after taking my youngest to the restroom, I noticed a "real 3D" box where you put the glasses after a movie outside the entrance. I reached in and grabbed a few pair and took them back in

I don't watch superhero/comic book movies, but took my 9 and 6 year old to see it today. I thought it was a an original and very entertaining moving. The middle age version was my favorite (probably hit close to home).
I also thought we were sitting in a 3D movie, but without glasses. On the way back into the theater after taking my youngest to the restroom, I noticed a "real 3D" box where you put the glasses after a movie outside the entrance. I reached in and grabbed a few pair and took them back in (I was watching at a poorly run theater in Bastrop, and thought they must have forgot to pass them out). We were the only ones in the theater wearing them, and they didn't make a huge difference, but they definitely made everything look crisper and helped with the blurry background (even though it wasn't the 3D version of the movie).

Man, I enjoyed the heck out of this one. A lot better than any other Spider-Man movie.
Yeah, I can't decide if I like this better than Homecoming. It was my favorite movie of the year.
How quickly so many forget Spiderman 2. Many considered it the best superhero movie outside of the Dark Knight trilogy.

Okay, I barely remember the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and haven't seen any of the newer ones, and have never read a Spider-Man comic. Obviously I'll miss all the inside jokes and Easter egggs, but will the movie make sense or do you need some knowledge of the comic history to really "get" it? I'm completely intrigued by the reviews, I just feel like I don't know enough of the backstory to appreciate it. Does the movie explain itself well enough for a Spidey virgin to really enjoy?
Dissenting opinion here. The movie does an efficient job of covering enough origin story detail to understand what's going on with no prior exposure to the comics. I've read a handful of comics over the years, none of them Spider-Man comics. Honestly, this is my favorite movie of the year. A better gauge would be your tolerance for intense, chaotic action sequences. If that sort of thing is boring or frustrating for you, then you may want to skip it. I loved it, but my wife didn't.Philo B 93 said:jenn96 said:

I would not recommend this movie for you. It will seem like any other cartoon you could see on Netflix or YouTube, and you'll be a little disappointed since the reviews have set an impossible bar.
However, if curiosity has gotten a hold of you and won't stop until you see it, you might as well give in. Won't hurt or cost much.
That's cool. I'll probably catch it then; I love action movies if they have a well-written story behind them, and I don't have an issue with animation. It just seemed like a lot of the reviewers were already very familiar with the Spiderverse and I wanted to make sure it wasn't too much of an insider's movie to really enjoy without background. I have a 6 and 9 year old so they'll probably like it too.fig96 said:
Seconded, though I don't know if you even need the caveat there, everyone I know with varying interest levels in action movies has really enjoyed it.
There's lots of little inside jokes for the fans, but the story and theme is very universal and really well done. You'll all enjoy itjenn96 said:That's cool. Have you watched this recently? Those spider movies don't compare well to the MCU at all.

They may be a little dated but they are better than a Good chunk of the MCU movies. Maybe I'm just a spidey fan boy but also think homecoming was middle of the pack out of the 7 movies to date.
