You're exactly right. People are wanting this show to be something that it's not. Very bizarre thread.
I don't think it's that bizarre of a thread, it's what people do on here, come on to discuss a show they're watching and what they like/don't like about it.

The Westworld thread was really similar for a lot of the season with people discussing things they love/hate/don't get/think was a mistake in the production/etc.

I do have a theory after talking to a lot of friends about this show, and I think most (not all) people who really like the show are people that read the book.

And I think it's because they already know how it ends, so they don't mind these long pauses in the story and people staring at each other and the seemingly pointless interactions because there isn't the same mystery element. It's like when you watch a movie a second time and you enjoy some of the interactions between characters more than you did the first time.

I haven't read the book but I like the show. I appreciate the way the story is being told mainly because of how context is being filled in. You learn a lot about the characters in each episode in subtle ways as opposed through explicit exposition and I enjoy that.

I think y'all are also expecting this to be a huge murder mystery/detective show, which it really isn't.

I realized this a few episodes in and it has helped me to just enjoy the show for what it is. Still creepy as hell and the show I am looking forward to most each week (HBO+Sunday night tradition!) Camille is a dark, complicated character and I'm enjoying getting to understand why each week, piece by piece, layer by layer. The visions and supernatural themes make it even more weird and interesting, and I definitely find that you've got to pay pretty close attention as they splice in some really quick shots each week that seem to give clues as to what is going on (or has happened on the past). This week's episode ("Cherry") was my favorite so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what develops the next two weeks to wrap it up.

Some of you guys just need to move on if it really pains you this much to watch the show. I mean, The Big Bang Theory is pretty much horse sh*t to me, but you don't see me posting 7-8 pages of comments on a topic to let everyone know about it.

Agree with this. And even though I was semi ok with tonight's episode, I'm now to the point where it needs to go into overdrive to finish the rest of the way for me to end this run enjoying the time spent watching. We gotta move this along

Adora. big clue about her this week. the cheerleader is just a distraction.

the story might be slow but i like how artistic the filming is.

Amma might be crazy but I'm pretty sure she isn't the killer. too easily influenced and tries so hard to get people to like her.

I'm still banking on Adora and the cop.

why didn't Adora want an autopsy done? did she poison her own daughter? what was the motive?

Actually the cheerleader said something that most of you all likely glanced over.

I agree with it being a combo of Adora and someone else at this point. But not the cop. Used to not think Adora but there isn't enough time left to not have her be in on it given the screen time she has received.

The step dad is too obvious. I felt like it wanted us to think that with the porch conversation tonight.

Also, the entire series so far has almost teased a connection of the woods with Camille memories and things happening back there in current times. Now we know what happened to Camille, is there anything left to that storyline?

she said talk to Adora about Natalie.

i think Adora planted the bike at the pig farm. i still think Adora is offing girls that don't confirm to the town's likeness. or maybe killing girls that find out secrets about the Camille's dead sister.

The cheerleader mentioned the "popularity" that would come from being the killer

Adora never got attention as a child from her mother, she loves being the popular person in town. Hmmmmm

The cop is looking into Camille because?

Book readers, just remember to spoiler tag your book info.

This show and thread is already frustrating enough without y'all giving us hints telling us what we missed.

I love this show though I really can't explain all the reasons why. The mystery of it all (haven't read the book) is one. And the characters and the acting is another. I have been a huge fan of Amy Adams for a long time, and I love Patricia Clarkson as well. Every time I finish an episode I am ready to watch the next. And yes, it is slow, but I am so curious as to how it ends that it keeps me very interested. I think also having been born and raised in a town of a few thousand with actual names and faces I can substitute for many of the characters as well as the small town dynamic makes me feel like I can personally relate. Right down to a whodunit it triple murder mystery.

There is so much crazy in the family that isn't really explained... guessing it's easier for the book to give more detail and back story but damn.

I'm more interested in seeing more of the step dad and what his situation is rather than who killed the girls.

OK so the very last scene was super creepy with the door slowly opening and you see Adora when Amma was talking. The thing that got to me were Camille's scars being on her back as well. If a person is a cutter you, how in the hell are they supposed to cut themselves on the back? Are we supposed to think Adora was cutting on Camille?

This show is really working for me. I get all of the complaints (and agree with some of them) but the combination of acting/editing/music/atmosphere and the mood it captures is captivating. In the end it will probably be style over substance but I really, really like the style.

The sense of dread was palpable from the time Camille's sister talked her into the car. I would like to see this creative team take on the horror genre.

What I find interesting in reading through the thread is the idea that some think should be more of a mystery show,
That isn't what it is, the murders are a device to raise the angst, to allow the discovery of all the hypocrisies in a small town, and give all that is happening a sense of urgency. It's important to the show, but largely a plot device to further the character studies.
Had she just gone home to go home, there would be no urgency at all to the show. It wouldn't have been much more than a hallmark movie. Like it or hate it, it's a large character and small town study. In that way it's fairly unique, which is why I suppose I keep watching,

The only other part I remember is her saying Camille could have been a model and then when Camille said there are other female models she said "not in wind gap" or something

One thing I've been thinking is can we truly trust Camille's visions. She has mental issues of course, could she be a schizo? What she sees and what we see, could it be fabricated?

I do appreciate the show as really unraveling the mysteries of the people rather than just the murder (kind of like Big Little Lies). I guess I still wish it wasn't all through an enormous amount of flashbacks. I wish there was more development on Chris Messina's character. Like what is attracting him to Camille. He is dealing with a lot of odd behavior from her.

We found out early why he's attracted to her. Because she's educated unlike the rest of the town. Remember how badly he wanted to have a conversation from someone who has lived in the city virtually the first or second time they talked?

Interesting. I wonder if it'll play out on the show because I heard the big twist that differs from the book is that Linden shows up to investigate in the finale and they make us wait till S2 to find out who it was.
