I really get a kick out of seeing The Matrix now and what we once thought were just random security tv's (when Neo is being interrogated) was actually The Architect's room.

That said, I guess I can see a scenario where, even though your conscious mind, while in the Matrix, knows the Matrix isn't real - your unconscious mind maybe can't tell the difference and can fall prey to the "shock" or whatever and kill you.
Not that this helps, but Christopher Walken was in a movie called Brainstorm in the 80s with a somewhat similar premise (if you're wearing the magic brain device that lets you relive the memories of another person through their point of view, and that person dies in that memory, then you die too).

You guys ever have dreams where you are shot or fall to your death and feel like you really die? Freaky.

I was a Sr. at A&M when it came out. A buddy of mine from class was raving about it so I went to see it. I was so confused as to WTF was going on that I didn't really enjoy it. Buddy explained to me some of the key concepts, so I went and watched it again. Loved it. Probably seen it 50 times now and it has resided at #1 on my all-time favorite movie list for 20 yrs.

I thought Reloaded was excellent... just a notch behind the original. I wasn't crazy about Revolutions, but it did have some great action in the defending of Zion.

My favorite scene from the Trilogy is when the two semi's collide and Neo comes flying in about 500 mph to save Morpheus.

Watched it for the first time recently and I liked it. What I don't get though is why the machines created the matrix. What is the point of it if they're just interested in humans to feed off of them. Couldn't they just sedate them? Maybe someone could explain it to me.

The science part of the movie is total BS. Best just to go with it.

I was in high school. The week before I saw the movie for the first time and it was my favorite movie of all time. I had a date the next weekend and wanted to see it again so I took her to see it. We never had another date but I picked up some things I had missed from the first watch so it was worth it.

If it's not in the top 10 for the decade, it's damn close. Probably in the 10-15 range for me. The 90s was just a great decade for film.

Note to self: The Matrix is not a date movie.

The late 90s had some serious mind **** movies. Seven, Dark City, Pi, Lost Highway, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Matrix, Memento (2000) all within a six year period.

I too walked in blind coincidentally I saw this movie in COLLEGE STATION.

I remember it vividly. Had travelled there for business - I can't recall exactly but it was either a recruiting event (one of the Engineering job fair type things at Reed) or I was there for the CSE guidance council I participated in for a while under Dr. Bart Childs direction to give feedback to the university from the business world.

Either way I had an evening free and on a whim I drove out to the theater on Hwy 6 and decided I would just see the next show starting that looked interesting.

I had barely heard of The Matrix and didn't really know what it was about.

I was really so blown away... so just shocked and jaw droppingly amazed. I had zero expectations and the part near the beginning where he is flushed and all that was just so WTF... I couldn't even wrap my head around it for a while. I remember walking out after just stunned and wanting to see it again. I took my wife within days after I got home.

the sequels were certainly a letdown considering the huge buildup - I was nearly as intrigued as for a SW movie back in the day. but I still enjoyed them for the most part - just not as good but still groundbreaking.

The movies came and went in the theaters and I never saw them. Heard a lot about them, but those were my college days and I didn't see a lot of movies at the theater due to a single income (rec center) budget.

I was apartment/dog sitting for a friend of mine in 2004-5 and he had all three DVDs. I watched the first one and as the credits rolled I literally said, "What the **** did I just watch?"

Watched it again and a third time that night/morning. Watched two and three the next night. That trilogy is amazing. The progression of characters through the films was great and I loved the way they explained so many real word mysteries as computer glitches and programs.

I watch the trilogy at least once a year. Still holds up.

Also, wanted to name my firstborn daughter Trinity. I have two boys.

All three Matrix films were a big part of my College Station experience.

Man, college was great.

I think somewhere in the first movie they state that in the first attempt the machines tried this. I can't remember exactly what they said, but something along the lines of "the body needs the mind to live."

Pretty much.

I'd rank it #2 on my list of movies I knew nothing about walking into that just blew me away. #1 on that list is Fight Club.

The Matrix nerds probably already know this, but Will Smith turned down the Neo role to be in "Wild Wild West". Only history will determine which was the better film for all time.

Totally agree they should have stopped at just one. My only memories of Reloaded are Neo kicking people then flying away over and over. However the second one did give us this masterpiece. Will Ferrell at his finest.

Went to see the third one with my dad just to round out the series. Have a fantastic memory of the two of us sitting in the theater before the coming attractions started trying to remember the plot of the second one until a guy dressed as Neo (+75 pounds) turned around and growled 'YOU GUYS ARE EFFING RUINING THIS FOR ME!"

Agreed that they should have stopped after the first one. Reloaded was like a video game, too much CGI Neo while fighting, flying, etc. The sequels took a good thing and ruined it

I remember being blown away the first time I saw it because it was nothing like what the trailers made it out to be. Anytime the lobby shootout scene is on tv, I turn up the volume and just soak it in. So cool

Awesome film.

No one ever talks about the religious parallels in the series, and how Neo's life story and death (even down to the way the machine holds him up at the end) is similar to Jesus.

When it came out I was working in a movie theater, they wouldn't lent us use our free passes on some of the bigger new releases, Matrix was one of them.

I remember a few of the ushers knew when to duck into a showing so they could rewatch the fight scenes.

Well the coolest thing about the first one was all the Gun-fu. That's a great American action movie. Then at the end, he reaches the point where he doesn't need a gun anymore. So the next two movies are really more high wire Kung fu movies than anything else.

I've been reading this forum for years and just now discovered I'm old. Compared to some of my favorite posters, I was 28 years old. However, I was just as captivated by this movie. I saw it three times at the theater and dragging friends and family to see it. It was actually one of the first movies I watched on a computer when the DVD finally came out.

Ha, I had that screensaver too - on my old Gateway desktop.

I was actually watching the matrix last night when I saw this thread. I probably haven't seen it in almost 15 years and it definitely took me back. Hard to believe it has been 20 years (same with office space and fight club - man!)

The first movie was amazing, and then they should have stopped right there.

It was a brilliant start to the story but impossible to do any sequels that would be as good as it. Maybe just ending it at one movie would have been ideal.
