I really get a kick out of seeing The Matrix now and what we once thought were just random security tv's (when Neo is being interrogated) was actually The Architect's room.
Not that this helps, but Christopher Walken was in a movie called Brainstorm in the 80s with a somewhat similar premise (if you're wearing the magic brain device that lets you relive the memories of another person through their point of view, and that person dies in that memory, then you die too).TCTTS said:
That said, I guess I can see a scenario where, even though your conscious mind, while in the Matrix, knows the Matrix isn't real - your unconscious mind maybe can't tell the difference and can fall prey to the "shock" or whatever and kill you.

Watched it for the first time recently and I liked it. What I don't get though is why the machines created the matrix. What is the point of it if they're just interested in humans to feed off of them. Couldn't they just sedate them? Maybe someone could explain it to me.

I was in high school. The week before I saw the movie for the first time and it was my favorite movie of all time. I had a date the next weekend and wanted to see it again so I took her to see it. We never had another date but I picked up dom things I had missed from the first watch so it was worth it.

I think somewhere in the first movie they state that in the first attempt the machines tried this. I can't remember exactly what they said, but something along the lines of "the body needs the mind to live."

I'd rank it #2 on my list of movies I knew nothing about walking into that just blew me away. #1 on that list is Fight Club.
The Matrix nerds probably already know this, but Will Smith turned down the Neo role to be in "Wild Wild West". Only history will determine which was the better film for all time.
Totally agree they should have stopped at just one. My only memories of Reloaded are Neo kicking people then flying away over and over. However the second one did give us this masterpiece. Will Ferrell at his finest.
Went to see the third one with my dad just to round out the series. Have a fantastic memory of the two of us sitting in the theater before the coming attractions started trying to remember the plot of the second one until a guy dressed as Neo (+75 pounds) turned around and growled 'YOU GUYS ARE EFFING RUINING THIS FOR ME!"

Agreed that they should have stopped after the first one. Reloaded was like a video game, too much CGI Neo while fighting, flying, etc. The sequels took a good thing and ruined it
I remember being blown away the first time I saw it because it was nothing like what the trailers made it out to be. Anytime the lobby shootout scene is on tv, I turn up the volume and just soak it in. So cool

The first movie was amazing, and then they should have stopped right there.
