Awesome film.

No one ever talks about the religious parallels in the series, and how Neo's life story and death (even down to the way the machine holds him up at the end) is similar to Jesus.

I feel like this has actually been talked about ad nauseam since the movie released. There are countless articles and even plenty of books on the parallels. That said, this is a franchise that cribs from / examines multiple religions and philosophies, not just Christianity. I seriously doubt that two brothers - now two sisters - one of whom met their partner in a literal S&M dungeon, attend church on Sundays.

Watching Reloaded now.

Everything from when they get the Keymaker at the Chateau to when Neo flies in to the rescue when the semis collide on the freeway is awesome. A solid half hour of greatness.

Another one to add to the list - The Truman Show. Great movie.

98-00 was such a great time for movies of that ilk.

Having tried to watch watchowski brothers work since Matrix I have no doubt Matrix IV will be terrible. Hopefully they don't saturate it with alternative lifestyle stuff like Sens8.

First one was amazing and I was caught completely by surprised. Actually didn't see it until it was out of theaters, but it's now one of my top five all time.

I saw it 3 times when it came out in the theater. I believe I was a freshman in college at A&M. I visited home and saw it with old high school friends opening weekend, and was blown away by it - then I saw it Sunday night after talking about how awesome it was when back at A&M with college friends. Then randomly just wanted to see it again a couple weeks later. First and only time besides Star Wars films I've seen a movie in the theater that often.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Just FYI, the Wachowski's involvement is only a rumor at this point, and it sounds like if they are involved, it might just be in an advisory/story capacity. Screenwriter Zak Penn is the one presumably doing most of the heavy lifting.

My story is similar to a lot if people on this thread. I had no desire to see the movie, even though I love sci-fi. I just thought the previews looked bad, and I was not a Keanu fan. I can't remember why I even went. Probably just because I went to see everything in college. When Trinity did the kick in the first two minutes, my head exploded. I was hooked and am now a big Keanu fan. It is maybe my best movie theater experience. Certainly top 3. Off the top of my head, only Avatar comes close. The 3D really blew me away. I saw it recently without 3D and it was terrible, though.

Reloaded, though, is maybe the most disappointed I have ever been in a movie. I skipped the third one in the theater, and tried it on DVD, but I don't think I ever finished it.

The preview for it did it no favors..... it was ok but hard to show anything and yet not give away anything.

But the ending really was kind f a turnoff with Keanu doing the "whoa....." thing - was too much like a typical Keanu Bill and Ted thing or whatever. I guess it was after Speed and Point Break but still his reputation and the way they showed it in previews wasn't a big selling point.

I honestly don't know why I wasn't a Keanu fan at the time. I really liked Bill and Ted, Point Break, and Speed. I think I bought into the standard criticism of his acting. Since then, I've realized he may not be a great actor, but he makes fun movies. For me, that is more important than being a great thespian.

Lobby shootout scene in theater was bananas.

"I know kung fu"

"Show me"

****ing jacked up every time.

Just FYI, that's some kind of weird, fan-made trailer. This is the official trailer...

It says official trailer. But maybe you are right - anyway both include the "whoa"..... that one gives a little more away.

But I don't even remember seeing the trailer really before I saw the movie.

Yeah, but it's posted by a Keanu Reeves fan account. And on YouTube, literally anyone can call literally anything "official." I would only ever trust stuff like this from official accounts, such as the studio (Warner Bros., in this case) or an official, Fandango-like site that posts trailers.

What do y'all make of the theory that Agent Smith was actually The One?

I've never heard that theory before, but I don't buy it.

So the entire point of the movie/trilogy was about The One... but they decided to never reveal it to us???

No, Neo is the One. Some people argue the Oracle says he is not but actually he says that:

Quote:

Oracle: But... you already know what I'm going to tell you.
Neo: I'm not The One.
Oracle: Sorry, kid. You got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something.
Neo: What?
Oracle: Your next life, maybe. Who knows? That's the way these things go.

Note the "next life thing". Well when he is shot and dies he is resurrected when Trinity kisses him. That's the next life in which he becomes The One. The Oracle knew he would be - but was not yet. Not until the next life.

Amazing cutting edge game changing movie. One of my top 5, maybe top 3. And I remember at the beginning of the movie doing an eye roll and thinking I was in for 2 hours of steaming horse sh** when Trinity did those unrealistic levitating Kung fu moves in the opening scenes lol. Friend of mine who went again with me was like "just watch dude..."

And the Rage Against the Machine "Wake Up" fade into the credits still gives me chills.

I actually don't even remember ever seeing the preview for it. So many movies have borrowed from it, but the first one is still one of my favorite movies.

Also, regarding Wachowskis, I think Speed Racer should get more respect than it does. There was a lot to like in it, but definitely not on the same level as The Matrix

I love that the guy who played the lead Agent in the sequels:

later appeared at the head of the Russian bodyguards in "John Wick."

I would watch the hell out of something with those parties and Chad Stahelski and David Leitch involved.

John Wick and Atomic Blonde are some of the best action filmmaking of the last decade.

There was a game that had direct ties with the movie called "Enter the Matrix".... oh man I played the **** out of that game! I thought it was the coolest thing, you'd press a button and it would let you go in slow motion and run up sideways in walls and flip around people... it was one of the coolest games I had ever played at the time
