Didn't see a thread yet.

Hugely positive reviews across the board so far. (Plenty of them posted on the Disney thread.)

Currently at 100% on RT.

By all accounts, sounds like this will remain as one of the best movie franchises of all time. (Arguably the best.)

Movie drops on 6/20.

I should have known questioning Pixar was futile.

Toy Story 1 is hands down my favorite Pixar film, and in my top 5 favorite films of all-time. Can't wait for this.

ETA the trailer

Saw a great post on reddit.
Quote:

Its RT score is higher than Godzilla: KOTM, Dark Phoenix, and Men in Black International combined, with room to spare.

Regarding RT...is TS the highest rated film franchise of all-time?

4 films and 100%, 100%, 98%, and (likely) 100%.

Now that I have kids myself, I watched Toy Story 1 & 2 the other day for the first time since watching it as a kid. I was floored by how great Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are; something I obviously didn't recognize as a kid in elementary school. The "I am Mrs. Nesbitt" scene had me rolling on the floor laughing. There are so many great lines and humor that only adults pick up on; I can't wait to get more of it with this movie. I'll be taking my wife and daughter next week.

The Mrs Nesbitt scene is gold.

"SUCKING DOWN DARJEELING with Marie Antoinette and her little sister!"

Buzz' snicker gets me every time.

This is how people will feel about Marvel in a few years.

You are a TOYYYY! You're not the real Buzz Lightyear, you're an action figure. You are a child's plaything!

You are a sad, strange little man. And you have my pity.

(The last bit was improv'd by Tim Allen.)

Trying to think... when's the last time there was a great fourth movie in a series? (If ever?)

For reference --
SW: The Phantom Menace
Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Terminator: Salvation

I really love TPM, and while I think there are great parts, I don't know if I can defend it as a great movie.

You guys are completely nuts that was by far the worst representation of all of the books.

I actually like that movie, too. Books are irrelevant.

Still, wouldn't call it a great movie by any stretch.

I can't wait! The originals were and are my favorites. When my son was born we burned through those DVDs. It was supposed to be his first movie to see in theaters last summer but it got bumped so I took him to Incredibles II.

We are siked to go see TS4 Friday morning!

Toy story is one of my favorite things to share with him from my childhood in addition to my old matchbox cars and my old GI Joes!

It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that it's been 24 years since the first one, especially since I remember watching it in the theater.

These long gaps in the franchise do provide a chance for a whole new generation of kids to get into the movies though.

That's the main reason I think this will be a massive hit. (Sticking to $600M+.)

From a book perspective maybe.

But the first two HP movies were very generic in direction. Cuaron did a great job in changing the look of the films for the better in the third movie, but Goblet was where the series really hit its stride. Also, the scene at the graveyard at the end is maybe one of my favorite scenes in the series.

I could probably get in a 4 hour discussion about the books and movies, but I will refrain since it has nothing to do with this thread. As an avid book reader I thought the acting/writing of Voldemort was horrendous at the end of the 4th movie compared to the book, but the wand connection/priori incantatem part was done well... until voldemort opened his mouth again with the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (similar Vader NOOOOOOOOoooo in episode 3 and the addition in episode 6)

Movies for Me probably go 5/3/7.1/7.2/6/4/2/1. The possession scene in 5 might be the only scene that did a better job of explaining what was happening than in the books, and it had some really well written music. The 7th movies were almost the best until they kind of crapped the bed after the forest scene in the very last 10-15 minutes and kind of ruined the more epic feel of the book ending.

I went and looked at the previous Toy Story RT ratings and number of reviews, and they are as follows:

Toy Story: 100% - 83
Toy Story 2: 100% - 166
Toy Story 3: 98% - 303
Toy Story 4: 100% - 76 (so far)

So for 4 movies spanning 24 years, they've had 628 reviews... 5 have been negative.

And one of those is Armond White, which shouldn't even count.

That's an average score of 99.2% ...just incredible.

It's rated G, right? That seems like it's going for a different audience then and isn't exactly a sequel in the vein of most sequels IMO.

Couple of things I've seen mentioned on just about every review I've watched:

1. You will cry at the end.
2. It's the funniest Toy Story.

Not to hijack, but we were in London last week and took the Warner Bros Harry Potter studio tour and it was absolutely incredible. They've done a really good job with it.
