you might try reading or reaching out to some of the authors of the new books. They may be able to give you some insight.

Good idea. This would probably be helpful once I've figured out most of the story and have more "Can I get away with this?" type questions.

I mean, I love Star Wars but wow. Signs quote is what comes to mind.
Quote:

Morgan, this crop stuff is just about a bunch of nerds who never had a girlfriend their whole lives. They're like thirty now. They make up secret codes and analyze Greek mythology and make secret societies where other guys who never had girlfriends can join in. They do stupid crap like this to feel special. It's a scam. Nerds were doin' it twenty five years ago and new nerds are doing it again.

... says the grown man, who, judging by his posting history, chooses to spend what looks to be a healthy amount of his time posting on message board threads about football, politics, and the city of Houston, not to mention Ghostbusters, Dune, and an HBO fantasy series as of late...

Let's face it, anyone who spends as much time as we do on message boards - heck, anyone who posts on message boards at all - is either full-nerd or nerd adjacent, you included.

At least this counts as experience/practice toward what I do for a living. You?

Midachlorians always seemed they were ripped off from L Ron Hubbard and the church of Scientology to me. I know they are now part of canon but damn, just wish they would have let anakin resume speak for itself (building c3po, pod racing etc...). Didn't need some fake objective "test" to prove all of that.

Imagine in Good Will Hunting, they made him take an SAT to "prove" how smart he was after solving maths greatest unsolvable problems

I've often wondered if there's a limited amount of dark and light side force power in the galaxy at any one time, and so as Luke shut himself off, Rey became the only light side user and thus became way more powerful than she normally would've been.

Although that wouldn't quite square up with how midichlorians work. TC, what's your position on midichlorians as far as this script?

Midichlorians will definitely be mentioned, and factor in, but not just because they're canon. They actually play directly to the crux of the story, yet because of the nature of the core concept of the movie, they'll ultimately be dismissed somewhat as well. In other words, the concept checks the midichlorian box, but those who hate midichlorians (and who doesn't?) will be happy in the end.

Part of me wants to keep the idea private and offline until the entire thing is done (if it ever gets done), but another part of me wants to explain what I've come up with so far as a way to battle test the idea and then crowdsource feedback. I'm 50/50...

Outside of Episode III, are there any books, Clone Wars episodes, etc that dive further into / expand on Order 66?

This idea can technically take place at any time in the relatively modern Star Wars age - again, it's not really tied to any specific events, lore, or prominent characters - but setting it just before Order 66 (with Order 66 serving as the climax) might be the way to go. If so, I think act one would be on Coruscant, but if there are any further details on a potential planet (or two) where I could set the rest of the story after that point - one that was affected by Order 66 - that information could potentially help. I can probably just invent a planet/situation that was affected by Order 66, and that might honestly be best, but before I go that route I wanted to see what's out there currently in terms of canon.
Sure you have already thought about this, but...

The Darth Plagueis book has a significant amount of the story of the study of the force and midichlorians to try and better understand them.

For Order 66, this gives the high level, but by branching out on some of the links it might sen dyou down a rabbit whole worth exploring:

As someone who just finished reading Zahns Thrawn trilogy yesterday I will give you two items for consideration:

1. The Force really, really bolsters you're standing back flip skills.

2. There are mammals called ysalamari that negate the force if you are near them. They basically totally cut you off from the force No idea if they are discussed in other Legends books.

Trying to remember where I read about the ysalamari? Was it in the Thrawn book or the Plagueis book. Was that the species he was studying?

Yes, and here is more background in them via their natural predator that was also featured in same books - force sensitive canines that hunted them.

Original 7-9 trilogy - Heir to the Empire.

Thrawn used them to negate the dark Jedi C'Baoth so he could control him.

They are Legends. Filoni said that when they reintroduced Thrawn they had to eject the ysalamari because they didn't jibe with the canon if the Force from the prequels/TCW.

With the amble fodder from ep7-9, we can hardly wait for the conclusion trilogy.
