Any thoughts on how they are going to handle the gang chasing Joel and Ellie once they reach Pittsburgh (I think I heard they actually changed this to KC)? That's one part of the game where I feel like the story gets a little weak. From what I remember about the game, it's just, "They're outsiders! Kill them!" They send out an an insane amount of people for just some outsiders passing through the city. For it to work in the show , I feel like they're going to have a better reason for chasing them other than just, "Look! Outsiders!"

are you talking about when they get jumped and attacked when they are forced to drive off the freeway and we discover that Joel used to do the same with attacking folks? Or is this further into the game? I'm still going through my second play through but trying to not get too far ahead of the next episode to air….

Yeah, when they get jumped on the freeway. I don't remember Joel saying he used to do the same, but it has been several years since I played. I suppose if they make the leader of the gang familiar with Joel, then it would make sense for them to chase him all the way out to the suburbs.

yeah those guys were hunters and basically TWD version of the saviors…..so they'll definitely have a good story in the show

Edit: crap….not the saviors the group from season 4 that turned out to be cannibals….they're more like that group but never hinted at eating people but killed them for supplies

Apparently the woman who portrayed Tess in the game passed away from cancer, only 45 years old.

There is plenty of reason in game imo. Some of the reasoning and information is given via environmental storytelling but it's there.

no. the ******s in the other thread have taken it to a whole other level.
It's ridiculous. Jumping down the throats of people who said, hey I played the beginning of the game but never finished it. Probably didn't get far past what we have already seen.

On one hand, I hear ya.

On the other hand, when the first post of the thread says, "No game discussion of any kind..." How hard is it to respect/abide by that?

Posters over there become unhinged even if game discussion isn't happening. If you're a "gamer", you suck in their eyes

I was thinking she was still the right age to be Tess and was looking her up the other day. Remember her from Timeless and 24.

When I saw you post that I was like "well that can't be right, I was just on her Wikipedia page the other day and it didn't say anything. Sad.

Her death in 24 was one of the more memorable ones.

I am loving these flashbacks. Didn't expect an extended flashback for most of the episode but I'm really digging it.

Unexpected turn with them being gay, I assume these are from the game?

I'm at the part where Joel and Tess showed up. Another unexpected turn. But already enjoying these characters.

They are gay in the game but the episode is a huge departure from the game. I think this version is much better for a TV show.

So I'm half way through right now and so far I love how much they've expanded on these 2 characters….at the point where Tess and Joel are having lunch with Bull and Frank

Great episode. Yep, they gave Frank a much better ending than in the game.

I do wish we could have had more time on the scene with the raiders, but really enjoyed Bill and Frank's backstory.

Showrunners nailed the boobytrap aspect of Bill's town

What other roles is Murray Bartlett known for?

Way different from the game tonight, but it worked....

Game spoilers below....

Don't you find out in the game that Frank kills himself cause he can no longer put up with Bill? Bill was much crazier in the game
jokershady
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Correct.

Major deviation from the game but dang it was good. If they were gonna deviate from anything in the game this was the place to do it and glad they did.

Man that was incredible!!

Honestly for me it was the scene where Bill is fighting back his emotions when Frank tells him he wants that day to be his last. Holy crap that was a strong scene and a emotional one I did not expect at all.

I bet the other thread is going nuts because Joel flat out spoiled they are going to West to find Tommy. He didn't give a spoiler warning or anything.

Great episode, though. Never would have thought a gay love story about a prepper in the middle of a zombie apocalypse would work so well.

Yeah, it seems like most don't care, but the ones that do might as well check out now. I think I read The Left Behind section will be episode 8.

If you watched the "inside the episode" piece right after the episode, they do explain the Bill/Frank scenes are the biggest deviations of this season.

Also, I believe it was already explained in the first episode that Joel was going west to meet up with his brother in Wyoming.
