So, is this movie good? It's about the American Revolution, right?

its a 'musical' featuring really poor rap, attempting to give a version of history. so no. it is not good. though i have to be honest, i didnt make it very long after paying for it to turn it off. maybe it gets better.

My kids are obsessed with it now. I enjoyed it at first, it's now becoming the new "Let it Go".

I'm still amazed there are men that seem to be scared of enjoying theater so much they look for immediate reasons to move on.

Sorrry folks, my wife and i rented it, she wanted to ditch it in 3 minutes. I gave it another 5 or so, thinking some evidence of talent had to appear.

Nope.

I am not a big rap fan, but it is not an instant turnoff itself. I made plenty of money dj'ing in the 80's and 90's, and even a few times in 06, and there was plenty of rap in the sets.

This particular show just has particularly ****ty rap.

I wish someone had given me the same honest warning.

This proves he's lying, doesn't it? Isn't it just available on Disney+?

This. Digging up a thread after 15+ days of inactivity to continue feeding the same line is textbook. Don't respond to it, just flag it and move on

The opening track is longer than 3 mins and I wouldn't call it very 'rappy.' Sure the first half is rhythmic and syncopated poetry but the second half is straight up modern musical theater. And isn't that what makes it so great - the marriage of musical styles and exposing those styles to those that may not have otherwise appreciated them.

My wife and I listened to the OST a few times and it got stuck in our heads for about a month straight. We have to shout each other down if someone accidentally starts singing one of Angelica's songs or something.

"But Alexaaaaanderrrr I'll neverforgetthe-" "STOP! STOP STOP STOP"

Jesus you people are hysterical. My wife brought it up on her ipad, i am pretty sure she paid for it. We played it on our tv. The only thing i knew about it was it had critical acclaim (in todays world often not a plus, but whatever). She told me it was a musical as she started it up.

Then it came on. It was stunningly bad. Way worse than the jokers trying to rap in my high school talent show.

She was done almost instantly. I talked her into at least making it past the opening scene. It didnt et better.

Someone asked if it was good. The only reason i posted again was to give him fair warning that my wife and i thought it sucked so bad we didnt even keep it on when we paid for it and are struggling to find things we both want to watch.

Honest warning: Hamilton isn't my favorite musical ever, but it is definitely in the top 5 or so for me. To give it ~5 min and say there wasn't any evidence of talent? Nah, man. You admitted to not being a big rap fan, so you already had an inherent bias against it and everything is gonna stem from that.
I am not a big country music fan (read: hate country music), so anything that has a country music basis is going to already be a big negative for me. Kind of seems like the same thing here.

Also, you missed out on fantastic performances from Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, and Jonathan Groff (there's more, but these stand out for me personally).

In cbr's defense, about 10 minutes into watching I almost bailed too. I couldn't keep up with the rapping and thought it was going to be a long 2.5hrs for me. But after 'I'm Not Throwing Away My Shot', it slowed down and George Washington and Schuyler sisters brought in more traditional style songs. Then for whatever reason, the rest of the rap was a lot easier to keep up with.

It's not my favorite play I've seen, but it's definitely in my top5. And the more you listen to it, especially the soundtrack, the better and better it gets.

Then you throw in the choreography and reprises (sp?), and I started to realize why it was thought of so highly. My favorite song has changed probably five times since I first saw it:

You'll Be Back -> Satisfied -> Dear Theodosia -> It's Quiet Uptown -> Wait for It

When I first saw it I thought Leslie Odom Jr. was overrated, Renee Goldsberry was the best singer, and Miranda was the weakest link. Now I've done a complete 180 on Odom Jr. Still think Goldsberry has the best voice, and I still think Miranda is the weakest performer.

I was very skeptical of this thing and usually hate things that "everyone loves". But I couldn't help but like it. But I do like hip hop. Also, the more I watch, the more incredible Phillipa Soo gets. My 2 year old will listen to "You'll be back" on repeat all day long if he could.

I also hate country music but when my wife drags me to some singer/songwriter events even though I know maybe 2 or 3 of the songs and confuse Garth brooks and George straight, I have a good time. It seems like these guys hating on Hamilton already know they hate it before they even watch it.

Groff nails his role. I've been a big fan of his since his Glee days (yeah, yeah, I know). "You'll Be Back" is a great song and definitely one of my favorites. I have a hard time not belting that one out at work when it comes on.
