200 years from now 2010-2020+ will he looked at very poorly. Our technology expansion has been amazing, but it has reduced us to uneducated fools and wild animals.

Oh I know ... I was making a joke/reference to in the future fictional HP universe where people would "cancel" him.

I think the people critiquing LMM also should understand that he wrote this show 100% with himself in mind to play Hamilton. Similar to In the Heights.

Finally got to watch this yesterday. I was very suspect of the "filmed live theater" format, but I was pleasantly surprised. The production was great. I hadn't seen it live,t it's easily a top 3 all time rowdy play.

Watched it last night. Enjoyed it as much as I can enjoy a musical.

But I will imagine this version of Jefferson any time his name is mentioned going forward.

Fiancee and I watched it last night, both thoroughly enjoyed it. Cabinet rap battles, Helpless/Satisfied, and the way Jefferson was portrayed all stood out to me, but overall just a great show.

I will say, Jefferson should have been played by Andre 3000 from Outkast

Daveed Diggs is super talented, currently starring in the Snowpiercer series, wrote and starred in Blindspotting, guest starred on Black-ish for a while.

Got to watch over the weekend and loved it, saw the live show in San Antonio last year and it's just incredible live.

Screw the movie remakes, just give me musicals like this.

Does anyone know the specific biography Lin-Manuel read that inspired him to write Hamilton? I'm sure there are numerous Hamilton biographies out there.

I recently re-watched it with subtitles on and realized there are countless references that went straight over my head.

The book is great but you have to have a taste for history.

Fair warning...it is a difficult read unless you prepare yourself ahead of time. It is 100% a boring biography. I have read many bios...this one has many portions that are just extremely dragging!

I agree with this, it took me several months to finish it and I usually devour biographies. Extremely well-researched, just dry as hell in a lot of parts. All the more impressive that LMM read it and thought 'this would be a great hip hop musical.'

If you want a truly riveting biography, the Lafayette bio by Unger is amazing. The musical didn't even scratch the surface of his story or his contributions to our country. If I could, I would 100% pay someone to write a screenplay for a biopic on him because it would make an amazing film.

Chernow's Hamilton is one of my favorite biographies, and Chernow is my favorite biographer. It's definitely a sturdy book though.


I have not seen the play and don't plan to change that.

To me, one of the more intriguing aspects about Lafayette is while he is heralded as a hero/legend/key-figure here in the US, he's a virtual unknown in his own country of France.

That surprises me, given his extensive (though complex) involvement in their revolution. I haven't made it to France yet, but his burial site is near the top of my list when I do go. Truly a fascinating man.

The Chernow bio is awesome. Required reading if you liked the play.
