There is so much content available I dont have to watch terrible shows
Shows have about 15 minutes and if they suck then time to move on
This is one of the worst pilots I have ever seen

Virtue Signaling. Same thing as bragging about walking out of a movie or leaving an NFL game early.

I haven't watched a minute, so I can't judge either way. I'm curious about the show because I like the past things the people involved have done. Some TV critics I normally agree with have said it wasn't' good, so I probably won't dedicate the time to watching it.
When I don't like something I try to explain what I didn't like and be constructive about it so that other viewers can learn from my opinion instead of bragging about how quickly I made up my mind. Also, pilots and first few episodes of any TV show are notoriously pretty bad. Because of that I'd be sure to give it a few episodes too.

I turned it off after 7 minutes.

Then watched it again and enjoyed it.

Up to episode 3. I like it.

What does that say about me?

Hmmm?

So now discussing a show on an entertainment board is "virtue signaling".

Some of you should say stuff out loud before you hit "send".

The first episode is not very good, in my opinion. I listed several reasons why. Episodes 2 and 3 were much better, and I hope to see that trend continue.

Several other people's reasons had very little to do with opinions on comedy.

It's not the worst show ever made, I don't think I'd even say it's bad. It's just not good. I've watched the full season and it's just a solid pile of "meh". A few jokes here and there, and it's funny at times. I just don't think they really knew what they wanted the series to be and it shows. I wanted to like it and I went into it with low expectations and knowing it wouldn't be the office, but even then it's not very good.

Big difference between discussion the merits of a show and what you did or did not like vs. posting something like "15 minutes and I tapped out" and nothing else. One is helpful and constructive, and one is not.

Finished the season this weekend. Was very underwhelmed at first and almost stopped watching after the first episode, but I always find myself incapable of quitting a show once I start it, no matter how bad it is. I guess that's somewhat of a rare quality amongst posters on this thread.....

The first season had some humorous moments, mainly in just how rediculous and unbelievable the events/storylines are. As others have mentioned, the most annoying thing to me was Steve Carell's voice. The highlights were definitely the Joint Chief's meetings. Also, I assumed they would take a lot of shots at the Trump administration, but, surprisingly, I felt there were plenty of shots fired at both sides of the aisle.

I think I get why he chose the voice. One reason would seem to be to distance himself from the Michael Scott connection. The other would probably be an attempt to simulate what someones voice would sound like after yelling frequently for 20+ years is my guess. It stopped bothering me sometime in season 2, I dont know if he modified his approach or I just adjusted.

This wouldnt have been filmed like a network show, where a lot of the time it is being written and filmed while the season is airing.

In 15 minutes the jokes were very poorly written the plot poorly executed and the characters unoriginal and not compelling

A few more episodes in and it looks like they might have something for season 2. They need to decide what kind of show they want, but there seems to be something good there.

I guess that is a little better than me, the trailer was so bad I never watched any of it.

I just finished the season. I thought it was cute.
Not life changing, but cute. I thought every scene where all the generals were gathered was hilarious.

I thought most of the political jokes were pretty funny tbh. Nothing so unfair or annoying that you felt like it was smacking you over the skull.

Just finished season one. My expectations were probably a little too high. Took a while to get a feel for the characters. Not sure if it got funnier or I just got more invested, but I laughed more later on.

I thought the first 3 episodes were decently entertaining.

I dont think funny so far. I think silly comes to mind.

It is political, but at least it makes fun of the entire political establishment.

I'm through episode 4 and most has been either great or terrible for me. I think the ratio is about 50/50 right now.

To me the show needs to settle in, so to speak. There are super cheesy moments that are absolutely terrible and the joke sucks, and then it is followed by a scene like the helicopter pilot baby sitting the daughter. That wasn't amazing television, but was a solid, genuine moment with some decent humor thrown in.

The show just needs to find its balance and decide what type of humor it wants to be. It could be right along with P&R, Brooklyn 99, and The Office or it can be like a bad Adam Sandler movie. It has had a mix of both so far and I don't think that's working.

I'll watch for a little while longer and see if it gets its stride and settles in on an identity.

I finished season 1 last night. It still feels like a rudderless ship, but I will give season 2 a shot to see if they find their way.

Man, one thing they do well is those governmental buildings like the ones built in the 1980s at A&M. The outside of the main building reminds me of Blocker.

The show is weird because I don't find myself rooting for the main character. I'm actually more interested in the supporting characters and in particular like the antagonist (the fbi guy from The Americans), more. Maybe it'll find its footing Because the car is pretty star studded.

While I was watching the first episode, I was getting ready to bail. Then Steve looked through the telescope and yelled MOTHERF-CKER and, that was the first laugh in the episode for me. It was a legit laugh, so I decided I'd give it a 2nd episode.

2nd episode was better, but not a lot better. Decided to watch #3, cuz now I'm in binge mode. When Jane Lynch said "acknowledge my gender again and I will **** you in the ass," I lost it. Big turning point moment for the show, imo. Rest of it was pretty great.

Her saying that was easily the funniest moment of the first three episodes to me.

Finished it. Liked it a bit. Will watch 2nd season.

It wasn't the best show, but most shows, especially comedies, take a little while to settle in. It reminded me a lot of Avenue 5. Weird pacing, quirky characters, mixing serious main plots with absurd, trivial side plots. It was all so jumbled. Naird was a lackluster character, but Carrell has great chemistry with everyone else on set. He and Malkovich were awesome anytime they were on screen together. His daughter, the helicopter pilot, and maybe Jin Yang were also solid characters, but everyone else was a one-note caricature. Agree with all above that it just couldn't find a footing. Was it supposed to be drama, comedy, an equal mix? I couldn't tell

Which parts were funny? The part with the chimp trying to fix the ship? I imagine they thought it got funnier and funnier, but to me it was just stupid and unfunny. I can't think of a single part in the first two episodes that were hilarious.
I fully admit that being AD military probably gives me a much better understanding on the nuance of the comedy, but, pretty much every military person I knows absolutely loved this show.

1.) Ball busting the USCG
2.) The interactions between the JCS and SECDEF
3.) The Congressional budget hearings
4.) Gen Naird's aide
5.) The PCS conversation Naird had with his wife...I have had similar convo's with my spouse and so has every person that has gotten an assignment they just didn't want
6.) The Chinese satellite sabotaging our satellite. I mean, words can't explain how spot on the point they were trying to make was
7.) The uniform design sub-plot...Might be my favorite sub-plot of the entire show
8.) The lizard chasing/gathering in the first episode
9.) "It's good to be black on the moon."

Is it a perfect show? No. Did some of the jokes miss? Yes. Am I going to watch a second season? Absolutely!

To me, it is a military version of the office because they absolutely nailed the absurdity of some of the things we have to do on a daily basis.

Also, if you don't like it, I completely get that. There were a lot of times that my spouse asked me to explain what I was laughing at.

I feel like the season got better as it went on. The secondary characters were great. It's not the perfect comedy show, but it was fun and a good way to waste a few hours.
