Plus the Guardians killed him fairly simply.

He calls himself a celestial, though seems completely different from the ones we see.
Pretty sure the theory is that he was a Celestial. The Celestial "died" and the skull became Knowhere. Ego was the brain of that Celestial that somehow survived and then gained consciousness.

That's interesting. Was that specifically called out? It makes sense....

So sons of dead-celestial-brains can be dusted by the stones = CONFIRMED!

I would venture that since Celestials can die (Knowhere, and the Eternals kill one) that they would be subject to the infinity stones as well. If they were more powerful then the stones, then they would have no need for them. Flashback in GOTG shows a celestial wielding the Power Stone.

not called out, that is a theory. seems a little far fetched to me. In GOTG, they are mining the contents of the head.

The movie flat sucked. The worst marvel movie by far. Waste of 2+ hours.

I don't think Knowhere and Ego are related at all, other than both being Celestials. Interesting theory but I doubt either will ever be addressed again - except maybe a James Gunn Facebook session or something.

I'm posting again just to emphasize how much this movie sucked. One of the worst movies I've ever forced myself to sit all the way through. My wife and two kids gave up long before it was over. Just a truly terrible movie.

I'm a huge marvel fan. Thought the two GofG movies were unbelievable, even beautiful in places. Endgame was wonderful.

Externals was complete crap. The gay proselytizing it gratuitously shoehorns into the plot should be nauseating to traditional Christians and gay agenda people both, but that wasn't the worst sin of this horrendous movie; that sin is almost predictable in the current climate. Set your watch to it. What was the worst sin of the movie? The stilted flat characters? The supposedly human moments that felt like watching hallmark characters? The ridiculously bloated and nonsensical plot? It's hard to pick which was the worst.

TLDR version: this movie sucks donkey balls

Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations, but I enjoyed the movie a lot. They tried some new things, some hit, some didn't, and I'd place it solidly in the middle of the Marvel pack.

I liked the history part, the celestials looked interesting. Too many new characters, but then they took care of that somewhat morbidly as the movie went on. Have no idea why they threw a kid in there, Eros looks weird, but everyone else felt kind of new.

Definitely a different atmosphere from the usual marvel stuff, and at least for me I welcome it.

Wasn't a bad movie, really, it was just boring. Hate that they killed off Ikaris, and loved the DC Batman and Superman references.

I would put this movie towards the bottom of the MCU.

Finally gave it a watch on Disney + last night. My overwhelming takeaways:

1. I can't believe Robb told Cersei he loved her.

2. The movie was saved by Kingo and Karun and their relationship.

So in other words I was not a fan.

Just finished watching it. It did NOT suck at all. Not the best MCU movie...in fact I struggled to see how it fit into the MCU other than the mentions of Thanos and the snap.

I too thought the big bad Deviant was gonna turn and help them since they effectively had the same goal, so that was a disappointment.

The discussion of the names a page or so back reminded me, I loved how they showed the actors' names in the credits linked with ancient artifacts or whatever that equated to the character and powers.

Also, "Sprite was named after a soft drink". LOL

As for "ticking boxes" and all of that, some of y'all work way too hard trying to find stuff like that to be pissed off about.

Loved that Ikaris flew into the sun, based on the Icarus tale that evidently Sprite invented.

Also, Ajak. Why did we see her entire death twice? Time was precious in this movie. They could have used that time more wisely. We knew where her body ended up, we knew most of how it happened.

We didn't see her entire death twice (unless I'm forgetting something). We saw her already dead in SD, then later we saw her die at the hand of Ikaris who then took her back to SD.

Also I saw a sex scene mentioned a couple of times above....where was that and who "did it"?

Ikaris and Sersei on the rocks in that small canyon. Not much of a scene. They were just embraced and lying on the ground.

Thought this was better upon 2nd viewing. I still think that they could have done anything else with the final Deviant and it would have been better. I kind of agree that Salma Hayek wasn't a great fit for Ajak - at least for about half of her scenes. With her accent, it makes some of the dialogue sound really unnatural. She's better in the mother figure part of the role than the speaks-with-Arishem part IMO.

But from a general audience perspective, the two worst sins of this movie are 1) it's not "fun" and 2) it's not very funny. Comic book movies don't have to be either to be good - I think the action is pretty legit, and the themes and concepts are pretty neat, for example. But you don't have a blast and it's got some of the worst jokes in the MCU - so why would there be positive word of mouth? Add some boring marketing and it's no surprise this kind of came and went. It's like the direct opposite of No Way Home.

Tighten the screws on some writing and cut out a character or three and I think this could have been really solid - but bad jokes, bad Deviant finale and too-much-for-one-film dooms it to the bottom tier of MCU films.

Film has really grown on me each time I watch it. It went from snoozefest to mild interest to "it wasnt that bad" in my books.

Yeah, it was fine and actually pretty good in parts… I just don't really think of it as being a Marvel movie.

It certainly deviates from their usual slick formula, but I'm down with them experimenting.

There are some "that should have been better" parts that stick in my craw. The Kumail Bollywood dancing scene could have been so much funnier, for example. It felt like he was barely trying!

TJ Miller needs to be the writer for the next Eternals movie.

You watched a movie, you initially thought was a "snoozefest", 3 times?

Bro... you need a hobby, lol.

Watched it this past weekend. Thought it was boring. Felt like they missed a real opportunity to bring more of the Marvel cosmic universe into the films and just get weird and have fun with it. Instead we get these mopey dull heroes. Arishem was the best part of the movie.

They should have just leaned into the scene. They did not.

Watched it for the first time this weekend. Felt it was okay.

There was actually some stuff that was pretty good. I thought most of the bigger fighting scenes were pretty decent. I wish they would have used their powers together more, similar to some of the scenes we saw in the Avengers movies. The Arishem stuff was good as well. I didn't mind Varun and liked some of the relationships.

The biggest miss for me were the flash backs. I felt there were too many and took way too long. I get what they were trying to do, but it feels like they only needed one flash back that could have driven the point home.

They tried to make the second half of the movie about these people being family, but I felt they never really established that in the first half. The scene where they are eating around the table after finding Gilgamesh and Thena is a prime example. The joking felt out of place coming off the first half of the movie. It didn't make me feel the Ikerus stuff as much either.

I also don't really see, at this point in time, how this movie fits into the rest of Phase 4. It's like this is a stand alone narrative and not truly connected to the MCU we currently have.

I didn't read the thread, but I don't like when immortals get in relationships with mortals. Their lifespan is a blip on yours but the blip is even smaller when you appear the same age. Just mean and disingenuous if you think about it. At least Ego knew he was lying when he said he cared about those girls.
