That was the most disappointing movie I have seen in a long time. Just a forgettable mess.

Took our kid on Friday. "Meh" is the appropriate response. The plot still doesn't make any sense in my head at all. But entertaining on most levels at least.

The gay storyline, while unnecessary and wedged in as usual was subtle enough and definitely not in your face woke ridiculous. I didn't even see the kiss but my wife swears there was one but I guess I looked down at my popcorn for a second and missed it.

Animation was great. Still blows my mind what they can do and the textures/lighting they can achieve now

Plot was thin. Zurg was not well developed and didn't like the way they went with him period.

Kiss was pretty minimal. Don't think it belongs in these shows but definitely felt like a check the box exercise more than anything. Woke mob wins again

My write in plot… Zurg should have somehow transported Buzz's consciousness into a toy thus explaining why Buzz never accepted being anything other than a space ranger in Toy Story. But whatever.

I took my 5 and 2 y/o and even though the 2y/o passed out for 30 minutes in the middle but really liked it and it kept their attention. I had a grin for most of it because it was fun. Sox was beyond awesome and I am a sucker for Taika's delivery.

That being said. I feel like the writers were hand fed a leading character and villain and just needed to fill in the gap. They chose to use future self with advanced technology as the villain fixing a past mistake trope. Which while not overused is slightly complicated for the target audience. imo. Instead of copying the plot of Lost in Space, I think they should copied literally any other action movie. The character change was in learning they cannot do everything themselves. It would have been just as fun and easy to breeze past the motivation for Zurg.

I still liked it and will rewatch on D+

But at least there's a gay character in the movie. So brave.
Pretty sure they put them in there now to drive word of mouth, since thin-skinned folks get so pissy about it.

The movie was fine. Kids loved Sox. My hope is that it makes them more interested in really good sci-fi.

Awful, by far one of the worst movies Disney and Pixar have produced in some time. My 7yr old fell asleep.

And if you blink, you'll miss the kiss, wasn't in your face or anything, people that are boycotting the movie and Disney are the same people that need to be reminded to take a breath

I'm confused.

If it wasn't the kiss that upset the far right, was it the fact that there was a happy, loving, successful gay marriage portrayed?

It was presented as subtly as possible, to the point I assume most kids will completely miss it.

Pixar has historically produced films that are loved by kids and have enough heart and wit to keep parents and even teens engaged, if not flat out love them too.

This was not one of them. It wasn't terrible. It wasn't good either. The plot is very tedious. We were just ready for it to be over. As someone noted above, a critic was basically saying it was a money grab and should have been on D+. I think a lot of parents will pull their kids to this (we did at the wife's behest) out of Toy Story nostalgia and it essentially had almost nothing at all to do with Toy Story.

The cat was by far the best part.
Saw this on Disney Plus and have to agree. It doesn't live up to the great Pixar name. It's very mediocre.

Just finished it. Meh.

This was a very mediocre movie. Really only hit was when he got back and his friend was gone. Overall the plot was kind of unoriginal and the pacing seemed off. Also, a movie in 1995 would certainly not have had a lesbian commander getting preggers on an alien planet with her wife (somehow), so the premise that this was Andy's favorite movie seems dumb. Also, how is there some Galactic Alliance when they're marooned and how are they defending anything and going anywhere at sub light speed? How are they handling the time dilation? The ending made 0 ****ing sense.

I can see why this performed poorly in theaters.

After sleeping on it, this movie sucked compared to what it could and should have been. Hell, it just sucked overall.

This is probably not something Andy would watch in theaters at 6. It just isn't. Can you imagine Andy bouncing into the theater in his Woody cowboy hat to watch a space movie with a plot centered around relativity and a planet of bugs and plants trying to eat people? Yeah, I can't either. That's almost like taking a 6 year old to watch Interstellar. Beyond the lesbian relationship anachronism, this entire concept made no sense in the context of the movie that was made. I could have bought it, but not with this movie.

Even then, instead of the stupid title cards, give us Andy bouncing into a theater with his mom, sitting down, and then transitioning us to the screen. Or better yet, have a 30 something Andy popping in a DVD and sitting down with his kid on the couch, telling him how this was his favorite growing up and he had a Buzz Lightyear toy that he took everywhere. It's campy, but it works better than, "This is that movie."

How is it that they have their special crystal that gets broken, marooning them, but they don't know how to make another one? How did you get the first one? Sox somehow figured out the formula, but then they lost it when Buzz broke the little computer. How does he not remember it? He's a ****ing walking, talking computer!

How does Star Command not notice they're missing for 60 something years and not send a search party?

Chris Evans' voiceover work was mediocre too. There just wasn't a whole lot of feeling there, and it felt phoned in. I'm starting to think that he's a mediocre actor with a very limited range who skates by on his looks. He makes a scent enough Captain America, but don't ask him to play a role that rewrites character development. A Chris Pine BMW commercial has more range, and he might have been a better choice.

Taika Waititi's Mo might as well have been Korg. They're basically the same character, but with a different name and Korg is made of rocks. That performance just felt recycled and cheap. Waititi can be very funny, but if he's going to be in this supporting comedic relief role, it can't be the same thing every time.

As has been said, Zurg got very little development. Buzz mistaking him for his dad, as Zurg took on a Darth Vader role as Buzz's father in Toy Story 2, was a nice touch, but everything between him and Buzz felt rushed and underdeveloped. He supposedly found this ship decades ago and has been time traveling, but what happened in the intervening years to make him so jaded? How did he get the engine from the Turnip? Did he come back and attack the planet? Find the planet wiped out? In retrospect, it seems like they sacrificed this part if the movie for more explanation and setup in the beginning, but I don't think it paid off.

And then the end... What is this, "Universe Protection Division," bull****? YOU'RE STILL STUCK ON A PLANET! What is this, "Galactic Alliance"? YOU'RE MAROONED BY YOURSELVES! None of this makes sense.

It almost feels like they added the lgbt stuff as a desperate attempt for relevance and to make up for a poor script and inability to execute.

From a studio that gave us the original Toy Story franchise, Finding Nemo, Inside Out, and Up, this was just an incredible disappointment. They've been very good in the past about telling a story within a story and really connecting you to characters because they or their situations are so relatable, but this was not even close. This felt like cheap crap compared to most of their other work and was more like Cars 2.

Saw one review for this movie that brought up a great point….and that this movie should've been based on the cartoon buzz light year show that was on a ways back.

THAT is something a kid would've watched and from what I heard was pretty entertaining

"Cars 2: the Shameless Quest for Money" is a great comparison.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, just watched it. Was a bit of a mess.

So buzz is trying to get everyone off planet by testing the crystal on the spaceship and kept experiencing time dilation. But the deal with the backwards sandwiches and future buzz not remembering certain people had me think buzz was transversing alternate timelines. Then that didn't happen and by that point I checked out.

I just couldn't get over how the time dilation they were portraying made no sense. You don't skip 15 years from going 0.8C for 20 minutes.
