Judy singing the song about butterflies coming from caterpills made me laugh harder than anything else this season

That might have been this show's greatest episode, and that is saying a lot. It's rapidly ascending my list of favorite comedies of all time.

Rewind it and check out Jesse's face when BJ loses his **** and starts tearing into the cake to throw at his sister.

And next week is a flashback which means the return of the kid who plays Jesse Gemstone almost better than Danny McBride does!

Guess I'm in the minority on this episode. I didn't dislike it, but was too over the top for me, even by this show's standards.
But do continue to love what they are doing with Eli. And the scene of Bj in the dressing room angry was awesome, as was the soundtrack. I felt like they were lining that music up with some other movie but can't find one that fits.
Looking forward to the flashback next week. Jennifer Nettles is great.

That and BJ's outfit reveal as well as his twirl/dance for Judy

And his fkn noseplug and nasal voice when he spoke as Jessie snickered.

Glad Baby Billy is back - this show has some dark, unexpected twists. Judy and BJ are stealing the season so far. Like someone mentioned - Eli is the most relatable character on here

My wife and I keep making the same statement. I love Walton Goggins but man is Baby Billy one despicable person.

Love how they keep peeling back the layers of the past. Show makes us despise Junior and adore Eli, then pulls back the curtain to reveal Eli covered up Junior's Daddy's death and probably stole his $3 million to build his mega-church 30 years ago.

This show has taken a leap in its second season, and that episode is what just sealed it, for all the reasons you mentioned and more. What a great half-hour, maybe one their best yet. And this is coming from someone who hasn't been a huge fan of the other flashback episodes.

Man, that was great.

Also, can we acknowledge how insanely good de-aging tech has become? Because whatever they did to Goodman was flawless. I mean, we've now reached a point where we're seeing photo-realistic de-aging effects in a slapstick comedy series, not a multi-million dollar blockbuster. It's crazy.

First of all, I'm still on "Uncle Pickles". That is my favorite single thing from this season so far.

But, and I know I've mentioned it a few times, the way they are setting this all up is brilliant. The easiest person in the whole mess to caricature is the TV preacher, and they have spent the whole season giving him three dimensional depth. Everyone else is the caricature. It basically turns convention on its head. I am worried for what it means for him by the end of the season, but for now it's great.
And think about Danny McBride taking a big backseat this season, how great is it that he's willing to do that? Between Eli and Judy, he recognizes the strength of the show and his ego isn't in the way,

Agree. I thought Danny McBride's run with the Texas preacher and that resort would have been the main arc this season but it's really played 2nd page to Goodmans character and his story.

I feel like there might have been a misdirect and the motorcycle gang was actually sent by the Black Joel Osteen to take out Eli so that Jesse and Amber would have access to the money to finance the resort.

What about the reformed minister the reporter did the story on, Eli threw out of the group, and tried to kill himself jumping out of the 2nd story balcony?
