And it just keeps getting better…

From the CEO:

"It's a function of Taylor Swift," he said. "The site was supposed to open up for 1.5 million verified Taylor Swift fans. We had 14 million people hit the site, including bots, which are not supposed to be there."

In the same interview, TM says that there were not enough seats to meet demand, but admits the unexpected demand was actually bots.

Ticketmaster is a scam.

Just got home from 3 day Billy Texas run. Good lord in heaven. The Austin show was the best of the three and that new Waterloo outdoor amphitheater is so great.

Very strong possibility now I'm headed back there this week for WEEN on Thursday and My Morning Jacket on Friday same venue. Ticket prices are pretty outrageous for both shows though. Guess it's part of the new normal.

Did you see him at Stubbs?
Yes both nights a week apart. The second night was the best Billy show I've seen out of 10.

So Tyler Childers added a Houston date at 713 Music Hall. Perfect! I've never seen him live. Just went to look at tickets and the cheapest ticket, GA floor, is $163 + fees.

Is he high? I mean he's Tyler Childers. He isn't THAT big an artist, is he? For reference, The 1975 just played the same venue this week and I think GA was like $65 plus tax and I would say they are a bigger act than Tyler.

It's a shame too. I had a ticket to Sturgill (on the Sound & Fury tour) with Tyler opening in Sugarland before Covid hit. Still pissed that got cancelled. But $163 + fees. Hard pass!

My son had to bail on my for Satriani tonight. He's not happy about it.

I called my cousin to go and he was just about to leave to get scoped - upper and lower. He's really even more irritated now.

Two buddies have their kids arriving tonight from out of town.

Another has the sinus crud and isn't leaving the house.

I have a feeler out to someone who will let me know by 4pm. Otherwise I'm taking one of you guys!!!

Hard to believe it's a problem finding someone to take a free ticket to Joe Satriani!

I'm waiting on those tickets to come down. I looked at the presales for Minneapolis and Kansas City as well, and they were close to $300. I get that he hasn't toured in three years, but there is no way the price should be that high. For current prices I'll wait and see him at a festival over the summer. He doesn't have any weekend shows scheduled, so I'm assuming he's planning to hit the circuit.

It's not just "oh we need to rent more internet this week".

That's actually exactly how it should be, and one of the entire points of cloud computing. You literally rent server/database space and bandwidth on demand so that you can scale up for a big event and then scale back down for normal activity.

How it should be? Ok.

How it is? No.

FIFA Ticketing App went down, thousands weren't able to get into England game, and hearing many still unable to get access to their tickets for USA/Wales.

You can stress test the hell out of this stuff, but it's never as simple as "just rent more server space".

Charlie Robison last night at The Kessler. He sounded great but sat on a stool the whole concert. It was just him, a guitarist and a bass player. The Kessler was packed and we enjoyed every minute. I hope this means he is coming out of retirement.

Metallica in football stadiums?

2 Nights of "not just the hits" ?

With a 3rd day open for an add?

Unless they officially go on record as this being their farewell tour, I'd wait to pickup tickets on the cheap. Love Metallica and will be trying to go to one of these, but they don't have the drawing power for 160k+ anymore.

what stadium has 160k?

This is one ticket for two nights, and they will sell every seat in the USA since it's only a dozen markets or so.
Single day tickets are not available for this on sale. (January apparently)

They just did stadiums in 2017 with a few big openers and it sold fine. They've also done this format for 40th show and festivals the last few years; 2 shows, 32 different songs.

No they are not adding a third might in between. They haven't played consecutive nights in almost 2 decades.
And no, this is not remotely close to being assumed to be a farewell tour.

I'm stoke for this format. They did it for all those festivals but I didn't want to deal with a festival to see metallica.
The 40th shows were badass.

Also let's not forget, this isn't another tired run through of a 7 year old album.

They announced a new album for April. It will be number 1, and several songs will be on the radio.

The 40th shows were badass.

2017 Metallica was end stage (at least at AT&T). That's roughly 45k fans for "sold out".

This is in the round, which is 80k if they sell it to capacity.

x 2.

I love Metallica (at least old Metallica), and will make it a point to hit one of these shows, but there will be plenty of tickets below face value leading up to it - there's very few artists who could do those kind of numbers with high demand, and I think the "different setlists every night" actually works against them in this format as that appeals more to the diehards than the fans that just want to hear the hits.
Know Your Enemy

Yeah, the last time they played Jerryworld 5 years or so ago it sold out. When James asked how many people were attending their first Metallica show I was stunned. It was about half the crowd. And as it was previously pointed out, it's one ticket to cover both shows. They'll have no problem filling these stadiums.
Know Your Enemy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
45K for end stage? Where did you come up with that number? And just because it's in the round doesn't mean the stage won't cover a large portion of the field level.
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
From the Metallica tour history:

06/16/17: Arlington - AT&T Stadium - 45,860 attendance (48,348 capacity)

I'm assuming 45.8 was the true capacity for that setup.

As for how much in the round stage setup will hold... George Strait packed 107k in there, so I think 80k is a pretty modest guess.

At 2 nights... I mean, lock 'em in early if you'd like but there will be $50 upper level tickets available on Stubhub by summer time. Metallica simply does not have the draw anymore to pack 150,000 in over 2 nights in the same city.

EDIT: Though as you said, with one ticket to cover both shows there's definitely a lot of value there. So $50 for uppers on one of the nights ends up being less than "face" but not ridiculously less.
