Binged season 1 and everything that has been released of season 2 over the weekend. I didn't really think I would like this show and I've been avoiding it for a while. After finally giving in, I couldn't stop. Yes, it's over the top in the way that it depicts high school, but still extremely entertaining. Zendaya is at the top of her game. Cassie is my least favorite character overall. I have a bad feeling Ash is going to die and it's gonna be Rue's fault. Fez and Ash are the two most likeable folks on the show.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-euphoria-season-2s-messy-behind-the-scenes-drama-from-sam-levinson-to-barbie-ferreira-storming-off

Some interesting theories and behind-the-scenes info.

Quote:

Some of the most far-sketched theories include: that Rue has been dead all along; that fellow teen addict Elliot (Dominic Fike) is a figment of Rue's imagination; and kiddo drug dealer Ashtray (Javon Walton) is secretly the mysterious third brother of Nate Jacobs, who is seen in a happy family portrait of America's most dysfunctional family, but never mentioned.

Quote:

The Daily Beast spoke with a handful of production sources who claimed that Ferreira indeed walked off set at least two timesnot including the time Ferreira had to be helped off after she slipped and fell twice, twisting her ankle during the filming of episode four's hot tub-puking sequence. Sources also say that at least one sex scene involving Ferreira was cut from a final version of an episode.

Sources also told The Daily Beast that Ferreira was far from the only one who had issues with the season's production. One of the main bones of contention were the gruelingly long workdays that could stretch anywhere from 15 to 17 hours. Sources detailed how Levinson rarely came to set with a shot lista detailed account of every camera shot the director wants during scenes and helps keep the production running smoothlywhich often factored into the long set days.

'Euphoria' Actress Minka Kelly Talks About Dropping Her Dress In Her First Scene
By Bruce Haring
February 19, 2022 1:40pm

AP
Yet another actress from the buzzy HBO series Euphoria has stepped forward to talk about nude scenes.

Minka Kelly, who plays Samantha in season two of the series, recently talked with Vanity Fair about her experiences on the set. Kelly said her character, Samantha, was scheduled to get naked during her very first scene.

But once she experessed her discomfort to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, things changed.

For the uninitiated, Euphoria follows recovering drug addict Rue, played by Zendaya, who struggles with relationships, and mental health along with her peers. The show is raw and unsparing in its portrayal of Gen Z, and includes nudity and violence in its revealing storylines.

Kelly recalled her conversation on her nude scene. "I said, 'I'd love to do this scene, but I think we can keep my dress on. He (Sam) was like, 'Okay!' He didn't even hesitate. And he shot a beautiful scene and got exactly what he wanted."

Great episode. Cassie looked bat **** crazy in the end. Season finale next week. Looks like some stuff is going down with Fezco next weekend.

Also, for a high school production play I guess their budget is unlimited.

Feeling like an addict fiending for that finale! Rue was looking a lot healthier. Really worried for Fezco. The use of the play to continue the story was brilliant. Also:

While I thought that was definitely an interesting and creative device for an episode, I was honestly pretty bored and kept checked the time throughout. It's like for every episode we get that advances the plot, the next episode has to be uber reflective and hardy advances the plot at all. That, and as heightened as this show is, I still couldn't help but think how ridiculous and over-the-top and self-indulgent the play was. It was just… a lot. That said, again, I get the thematic reason for it, and why/how it's being used, and I do like what it set up for the finale. Should be a wild episode next week…

Agreed, although I thought the episode was still fantastic. It's one of those "we all wish we could be that brutally honest" moments x1000. I'm interested to see how Lexi ends the play though (assuming Cassie doesn't go nuts and stop it early).

Where the **** are the teachers and administrators at euphoria high?

It really looks like ashtray gets killed from the previews. Cops are clearly listening in. He's going to kill or try to kill that rat and the cops bust in and kill him

Btw, doesn't Rue still owe a ruthless drug dealer $8K? I'll wait and see if it comes back around and plays into the finale, but I would have bet money that plot line was going to be the major driving tension in the second half of the season. Instead, it feels like it's been dropped completely these past couple of episodes.

Yeah I'm just waiting for her to seemingly get her **** together again just to get kidnapped. They may be holding that for next season.

They might need to save it for next season. Especially if ashtray is dead and fez is in jail.

Ok, yeah, good call on potentially saving it as a tease for next season. I still wish they would have at least acknowledged it in dialogue once or twice these past two episodes, but using it as a setup for next season could be pretty cool. If it doesn't come back around next episode, though, that's going to be super weird. Not to mention, there's also still the Jesse Plemons of it all…

Doesn't seem like Fez will die, but is probably arrested but will be interesting what the charge is since he doesn't keep the drugs at home. Does seem like Ash is going to die.

I do wish they had progressed more than one storyline in the finale. Hopefully they don't completely fumble it next season. I think it's a great episode if you ignore that it's a season finale, but obviously there's usually more of a banger finish to season finales.

TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, that kind of sucked.

Really, it felt way more to me like a *series* finale (even though it's already been picked for season three). Everything basically feels wrapped up - just not satisfyingly so - save for Fez's storyline, but it's obvious he's going to jail now, so what's the point? It doesn't feel like anything else was left dangling in terms of character development, and that final Rue voice over combined with the final shot of her walking out of the school, and seemingly toward the rest of her life, could have easily been the final moment of the series and her story.

I don't know, it's just when so many over-the-top terrible things happen to so many characters, all at once, in just this fashion, I end up not being able to connect to any of it at all. This episode just felt like melodramatic trauma porn. With the ridiculous play only adding to it all, a play that had to have had a hundred-thousand-dollar budget. I seriously said out loud, "Where are all the teachers?" at least three times. Even by Euphoria standards that entire thing strained believability.

Elliot's song was really the only thing I genuinely liked, or felt moved by, but when you consider it in conjunction with the play, and have all these characters writing and singing about Rue, it just feels... weird. As if they too are aware she's the star of a show they're all in, and something about that just feels phony to me.

At the very least, in terms of cinematography, this season was up there with the best-looking TV I've ever seen. Levinson shot the hell out of this thing, but I honestly don't think he knows how to construct a proper season from a technical/narrative standpoint. So much meandering, so many things set up that never paid off, and so many characters, including Jules, kicked to the curb this season for things like WAY too much Nate and Cassie. HBO really needs to pair him with a proper showrunner next season in order to keep the show focused, evenly distributed, etc. But seeing as though I have no idea where the show even goes from here, I really don't care what happens now. I'm sure I'll watch it, but I'm not hopeful for anything better than what we just got.

Just finished. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Agree it felt almost like a series finale and the play was the most extravagant public high school play setup I have ever seen. Haha.

Genuinely curious what you think they have to cover next season? Not trying to call you out or anything, I just can't fathom what else there is to do besides send Fez to jail, where he'd basically have to be on a different show to make any sense of seeing his story progress from here. Unless Rue visits him in jail or something, but then we're basically talking a cameo at best. Honestly, I would have rather his character died, and have his death mean/affect something, than have him have to watch Ash go out like that, and then end up arrested. It's just so unsatisfying, and ultimately had no real effect on the greater plot. I still can't understand how Levinson didn't have the whole Rue/Fez/Lauri thing come back around, and actually have those set-ups pay off in organic fashion. It was all right there for the taking.

I agree with this sentiment. I have no idea where they go from here. Everything about this episode felt like a series finale to me. It was also weird that Rue says in narration, "I stayed sober for the rest of the semester." What about the drug dealer?!?!?!?

I enjoyed the show and the cinemetography and certain scenes were pretty off the charts this season, but the parts ended up being greater than the whole. There's always a chance they could fix it somehow, but I'm not creative enough to imagine how they could do it.

Told myself while watching it that if felt like a series finale how everything went down. I think I expected more being a season finale but I guess it was just Sam saying let's wrap up season 2 storylines and start a fresh one for season three.
I checked online and a lot of people are criticizing Sam for this episode.

I kind of don't understand why Sam had Ash go out that way? Maybe for dramatic effect. Also, how is Rue not a wanted person for causing such mayhem when they cops were trying to catch her a few episodes ago? I agree with others here about how is Laurie not in the picture and not going after Rue.

I did like they had Rue look better in the end and her coming to an understanding that she needs to do a lot of apologizing.
