Finished episode 1 and enjoyed it for what it was. Glad to have Givens back with his one liners. Only small nitpick was the daughter. I know that's Olyphant's real daughter but her voice sounds like she's 5 years old. Maybe it's just me.
Haha we watched these last night and wife said the same thing. Thanks wife for making me notice before ExpressAg11.

Thought it was odd when Givens was summoned to the attorneys office and Mansell was the one to mention the judge. I didn't rewind but hadn't heard him mentioned yet in the scene. Younger Raylan would have jumped on that and convinced him to duel

Season 4 is not connected to this series, so there is no crossover. You should still finish season 4 though at some point.

Please finish season 4, the search for Drew Thompson. It's right up there with season 2 as my favorite of the series.

I'm deep into this now and super intrigued Definitely planning to finish the show, just need to see if I'll do it before or after the new eps.

You should watch the previous seasons first. Not necessarily because they are connected but because the originals are so good and I'm sure they will have raylan as a more older/maybe mature marshall.

I'm still holding out hope for some cameos

there might be a reference or two in future episodes that would spoil something from the original series. the creators hinted at a cameo or two.

No mentions of Mansell (Manziel) and a wrecking crew mention in episode 2? No way those are a coincidence.

Seasons1-6 are masterpieces
that's the only reason I will give episode 3 of this abortion a look before I quit

Two episodes in, this seems poorly written. I never got around to watching the original show, but have always planned to do so. I'll keep watching this for the ass kicking.

Not sure about the Wrecking Crew but I think Clement Mansell is straight out of Leonard's novel.

The original Wrecking Crew was a group of highly talented session musicians in Los Angeles in the 60s and 70s that included Glen Campbell and Leon Russell. It seems like they used that name since the character was a musician at some point in his backstory. They talked about him playing with the Wrecking Crew in his career before crime.

Didn't know that Olyphant spoke to Tarantino on the set of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and picked his brain about Elmore Leonard's novel City Primeval.

Quentin at one point was going to make it into a movie but it fell through but loved the idea of adapting it to Justified and apparently was going to direct two episodes but he had a kid and those plans got scrapped...stupid kids!

Just knowing this gives me hope that this season could be good.

The wrecking crew is from the book too.

Okay, I'm reading the book, and I'm trying to figure out what time period it's set in. Says it was published in 2009.

Minor details say late 20th century, probably early 80s - Judge Guy's car is a Lincoln Mark VI, which was made from 1980-83, the car has an ashtray. The crime scene tech is taking Polaroids. The detective sergeant has to leave the scene to find a phone to call his boss.

Ah. Makes more sense then. 2009 must a newer edition, maybe the Kinidle version.

Another date marker: buying a Ruger .22 rifle (10/22, I assume) at K-Mart for $69.95.

It's certainly not the original series quality, but through 2 episodes it's not near as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

For sure. The OG series gets a lot of well-deserved love but folks also conveniently forget a lot of its flaws.

These first two episodes have made me somehow appreciate Walt Goggins' acting abilities even more than before. Not that Holbrook is bad, far from it. But Goggins played Boyd so well that even with all his flaws and actions, somehow you were almost rooting for him. Maybe Mansell will prove worthy but Justified without Boyd's character will take some time.

This new series is more City Primeval than the Justified we knew and loved, and I'm ok with that. This series will get better as it goes, as we get to know the characters. The creators want to be true to the spirit of Elmore Leonard, and by adapting this early novel of his, they are doing just that.

The best thing is seeing Raylan again, with that hat and those boots and that belt with his badge on it. Like someone posted earlier, this is comfort food.

The Boon character was too cartoonish a villain to take out Raylan Givens, especially after six years of the "we dug coal together" story line with Boyd. I was satisfied with his conclusion, that he wasn't killed by Raylan like most probably expected. I wonder if City Primeval will end with Raylan visting Boyd again cameo, where Boyd asks "Raylan, when are you going to tell me what really happened to Ava?".

My biggest complaint on the new series is how evident is is that Raylan was stitched into the story.

I'm a big fan of the original series and this show hasn't felt up to par thus far. Maybe I'm giving the previous seasons too much of a benefit of the doubt but to me the issue is the writing/story so far just feels like we're missing a large amount of information. I'm fine with the actors so far, with the exception of Olyphant's daughter who just isn't good. I'll continue to give it a chance but it just feels like a big drop from the original series so far.

On a side note when Olyphant was on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast once he talked about them filming the show in Chicago and they actually had a drive by go past them and shots were fired at them. People having to duck behind cars, finding bullet holes nearby, etc. I think he said they actually found bullet holes in someone's shirt, or jacket, or something like that. They ended up shutting down the filming for a couple days because it was pretty traumatic. He might have even indicated he had borderline PTSD from the experience.

I'm watching it and like it alright. Quite frankly, just watching Olyphant play Raylan again is enough to get me to tune in.

My biggest issue is I can't figure out the motivation for half the crap people are doing. Other than trying to make the bad guy come off as a homicidal maniac, none of the things he's doing make any sense.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I loved Justified and all of the characters. Enough to read the source material. The actors, especially Olyphant and Goggins, made the show great. Source material, for me, was meh. I have not read City Primeval, maybe that's why I'm not fully connecting with this edition. It's just not quite the same Raylan for me.

While I think it's really cool that Olyphant gets to work with his real life daughter, I can't stand her character, Willa, and have a really difficult time understanding half of what she says whether it's her voice or delivery, I'm not sure.

I'll stick it out but not loving this iteration.

Lastly, if the lawyer is supposed to be his love interest...come on! Raylan can and has pulled much, much, much hotter girlfriends.

i wasn't gonna gripe about that for what should be obvious reasons, but its pretty unbelievable for his character. And Im not buying that tims daughter earned her role fair and square like was said to be, hopefully shes gone now.

Maybe its cause im used to watching premium networks, but I dont remember hour long shows having commercial breaks every 5 minutes. Im almost relieved this is only going to be an 8 episode series.

That last 4 minutes and the unbridled rage was pure old Raylan. Interested how the season will go.
