I gave it three episodes, I'm out. I loved the original series, this has none of the charm and certainly not the same quality of dialogue. Massive disappointment.

This is not Justified, it's City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.

All of us knew that this new series could not possibly be as good as the original.

The show has a 91% rating by the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and most of them have seen all 8 episodes. I'm seeing it through.

It's Raylan solving crimes and I'm enjoying it. For as annoying as his daughter was, the sunglasses wearing Detroit cop was worse.

One of the coolest things about Justified was the music. Every episode ended in some rendition of "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive".

This "series" totally abandoned that. The entire show is predictable and the marshal is a dead beat dad.

It sucks so far.

What? You didn't like Kokomo in episode 4?

Raylan has always been a deadbeat dad. His job has always come first. He's paying for that now.

It would be weird to sing about the deep dark hills of eastern Detroit.

Shot out the tire of the truck, but not them.

You're right. For some reason thought he shot one of the two guys. My bad.

I thought the dialogue writing picked up to usual Justified standards this episode. Albanians and the roommate especially.

I am so glad I didn't go ahead and watch the original series before starting City Primeval. That would have been a huge letdown, because this is one of the most boring shows I have ever seen. I don't feel invested in any of the characters, and Raylan feels just like a guest on this show. The romance this week had no chemistry and was really forced. Last week's episode was a slight uptick, but this week's was probably the worst of the season.

Looking forward to watching the original series at some point in the future.

I realize that Ava (from the original series) had a little junk in the trunk but she was still pretty hot. This series love interest, like you said, has no chemistry not to mention her middle sticks out past her top, significantly. Just don't see it. I feel the same as you on the characters, Raylan is almost a shadow of his normal character. I do like Wendell (Deke from King of Queens) but that may be because I liked him in KoQ. I like the Maureen character well enough but you just don't get to see very much of her. I'm sticking with because I am already in but it has been fairly disappointing for me thus far. Sadly, the best storyline on the show is between Jamal and Raylan.

Interesting that Rotten Tomato gives it a 92% but Audience score of 57%. Not sure what the Tomatometer is seeing.

I'm staying with it too just because Raylan is one of my favorite characters.

It'll always be hard for this series to stand up compared to the original series. The original had so many compelling side characters (Boyd, Art, Arlo, Wynn Duffie, Dewey). So far Primeval just hasn't clicked with any of the side characters. Hoping they finish strong though as there's still lots of potential with this season.

Yeah. The romance story line is really hard to buy. And not just from Raylan's perspective. I don't see Raylan being her type either.

The side characters were so great in the original!

I think one of the problems with City Primeval is that Raylan seems so out of place in Detroit. In Harlan County he was "with his people". Maybe the writers should have been less loyal to Elmore Leonard, and created an original storyline that fit Raylan better. Maybe a story set in Florida where he lives.

So disappointing. We have watched the original 6 times start to finish. Its a masterpiece. This one is not.

Raylan was not in the book. The story was Wendell vs DPD detective Raymond Cruz; for the show Raylan was wedged in. It's a terrible fit both as a Marshal there, his daughter, the city.

The bad guys are wooden and one dimensional without the charm of Boyd, or Wynn Duffie, or even Dewey Crowe. This contrived love connection makes no sense; neither have appeal to the other. Raylan liked his women hot with a touch of larceny like Ava and Winona.

We'll keep with it but I don't see it turning much better.

I feel like everyone else, this show lost it's juice. The "romance" is laughable and when she was crying about being broke to her ex my wife asked me "are we suppose to care about this character?" That about sums it up.

I really had hope for the show, especially in the first episode when they are searching the house and Raylan finds the hidden door to the basement and says something about growing up in coal mines. Then the Detroit cop talks about how they do things in his city and showed off the police dog.

If they would have kept that back and forth about the "Detroit way" versus the "Raylan way" this show had a lot of promise. I'll keep watching and hoping but I'm not expecting much. If the writers expected we would care about the old, frumpy lawyer's dirty journey to becoming a judge, well...you just don't know your audience.

at this point the only character im rooting for is the albanian chucklehead. sort of like an exotic, but affluent dewey crow.

I think they're trying too hard to shoehorn Raylan into a story that was written without him in it.

What I would love to see (after watching The Fugitive with my kids Friday night) is Raylan teamed up with Sam Gerard. Sadly, Tommy Lee Jones is way to old to reprise that role.

Keanu Reeves isn't too old yet. Why not Justified: John Wick 5?

Terribly disappointed in this so far. Gonna finish it, but this is bad. Lazy writing, all tropes, uninteresting characters, forced romance. It is like ChatGPT wrote this. The show sorely misses Walton Goggins.

Seems like they were really depending on Oliphant to carry the show. And also they thought the "fish out of water" angle would be a lot more interesting than it has been.

I've enjoyed pieces of every episode, but there's just not much to like about it that isn't Raylan and his interactions with most of the secondary characters feels pretty flat.

I hope the general audience disapproval of this season doesn't mean the end of Raylan Givens. I'd love for the writers to try again with another season and storyline that's more suited to his character. Or maybe the original Justified had a magic that cannot be recaptured.

He just needs to shoot a few bad guys to get outta the slump. Then get ambushed, and get bailed out by his old sniper work buddy who just happens to be in the area.

Problem solved.

This show should be called Justified: Tighty Whities

It's been good to have Raylan back, but the show just feels half baked. The villains and side characters are bland and don't have any depth to them. The writing isn't nearly as sharp as before. This romance is weird and feels forced and unearned. We have a limited series yet the plot is moving at a snails pace.

Disappointed with what we've had so far
