The Pogues' original with the music video:



The filming of the video was legendary. Among the highlights-

-The Pogues lead singer, Shane MacGowan, was a world class drunk and showed up trashed out of his mind
-The opening scene was filmed in an actual NYPD station, and a young Matt Dillon, who plays the officer in the video, had to smooth things over with the cops due to the band's drunkenness
-MacGowan requested that Dillon beat him up, for authenticity
-As there is no NYPD choir, they hired the NYPD pipe band as the next best thing
-The cops in the band were at a Christmas party prior to filming the video, and were also extremely drunk
-At one point they demanded more alcohol as a condition of continuing to film
-As the pipe band did not know Galway Bay, they are actually singing the Mickey Mouse Club theme
