Actually yeah, we've been watching that the last couple of years. Can't believe I forgot to list it earlier.

And yet there's been no convincing argument for why it IS a Christmas movie.

Things like Christmas Vacation or Elf are enjoyable the first few times, but I can't watch them anymore.
the beauty is finding /hearing something new every time.
I've se Xmas Vacay say 20 times.

Last week we watch it, and the part where Clark brings his boss a present and Boss says 'put it over there with the others'.
I noticed for the first time that Clark's present and all the others on the table are all the exact, but unique, shape.

That's why you watch movies like this multiple times.

This is absolutely what I do.

I've seen Elf dozens of times, but I never noticed this until we watched it Thanksgiving night.

When talking about the best book idea that Miles Finch has, Miles (twice) and Walter (once) start talking about what the cover is supposed to look like, and every time they are interrupted. Miles is interrupted by Buddy both times in the clip below (Miles had just started talking about the cover at the very beginning of the clip, and then again around 0:27).

Then, in the second clip at around 0:12, Walter is about to start describing the cover, but is interrupted by Michael.

George Washington ===> It's a Wonderful Life
The OG. The GOAT. Washington is America, and It's a Wonderful Life is Christmas

Thomas Jefferson ===> Christmas Vacation
TJ was all about ideas, and he also doubled the size of the US. Christmas Vacation doubled the size of our holiday catalog by giving the world the idea of the funny and irreverent Christmas movie.

Theodore Roosevelt ===> Die Hard
Teddy was the Rough Rider. He stormed San Juan Hill damn near by himself. He may have chased Pancho Villa. He once got shot and finished a campaign speech. And he did it all while laughing in the face of the enemy. Yippie Ki Yay, Mr. Falcon. Imagine what Teddy could have done with a machine gun. Ho-Ho-Ho.

Abraham Lincoln ===> A Christmas Story
The Great Emancipator's steady, reassuring presence was a guidepost for a nation in turmoil. He's the symbol of consistent perseverance. In the turmoil of your Christmas Day, the steady, reassuring presence of A Christmas Story on marathon repeat will be give you the ability to center yourself and persevere.

Cool schtick. There's been plenty already on this thread. Not sure we need to keep arguing about it.

You've got that backwards. The schtick was the hard push for it to suddenly be considered a Christmas movie, which started a few years ago.

Some, like myself, pushed back.

Can we agree that Die Hard is the best Christmas Eve movie?

"It is NOT a Christmas Eve movie you're just retreading someone else's dumb idea" - BES here in a minute
I'm not the one who brought the debate over here.

The non Neverland portion of the film was set at Christmas time. I wouldn't consider it a Christmas movie any more than, say, Batman Returns, however. There are plenty of movies like this (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon, etc), but of them, I really only think of Die Hard as a Christmas movie. No idea why, but it works for the wife and I.

It's A Wonderful Life
The Family Man (basically a Wonderful Life remake)
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (Mt. Rushmore must include a Rankin Bass Christmas special, and Rudolph is the best one)
Miracle on 34th Street (original uncut version in B&W)

Die Hard and the MST3K version of Jack Frost almost made the cut.

Not sure if serious...

That's the Mele Kalikimaka scene. How do you not know this? You must be female, because this scene definitely was memorable for me while growing up.

Side boob... oh yeah...

You have either not watched it 100 times, watched an edited tv version 100 times, or simply don't remember things very well. As in you might be in the early stages of Alzheimer's.

I utililized OpenAI to get as close to an objective answer as we could. Possibly the most advanced AI out there for this.

Here was its answer.

Quote:

Die Hard is a classic action film that takes place on Christmas Eve, but it is not considered a Christmas movie by many people. The film focuses on the character John McClane and his efforts to save his wife and others who have been taken hostage by a group of criminals. While the setting of the film is Christmas, the main focus of the story is not on the holiday itself, but rather on the action and suspense of the plot. Some people may consider Die Hard to be a Christmas movie because of its setting, but it is ultimately up to individual interpretation.
