While the setting of the film is Christmas, the main focus of the story is not on the holiday itself, but rather on the action and suspense of the plot.
Could the same not be said of Home Alone? I mean, that movie was certainly set at Christmas but the main point of the movie was a bratty kid's efforts to defend his home against a couple of dumbass crooks.

It's a Wonderful Life is more about a man searching for meaning in his life while blind to all that he has.

Could be said of a TON of Christmas movies. BES is just on his schtick still.

Yeah, I stopped with just those two.

At the risk of getting all Christian here, Christmas isn't what is depicted in pretty much any of these movies. It should be about the birth of Jesus, so perhaps a movie like The Nativity Story would be a more accurate Christmas movie.

So... the AI says what we say. It's up to interpretation.

Wow... great point?

Also, the AI missed the entire story arc about family reconciliation, which is a huge part of Christmas movies.

I actually addressed this specific example on this thread.

As for It's a Wonderful Life, I haven't actually seen that, but based on what I've read and what others have said, that probably shouldn't be considered a Christmas movie either.

That argument fails also for plenty of Christmas movies.

You are the one who brought it up here. I had a specific thread on this discussion.

Further, just because you disagree doesn't make my position a "shtick".

I like it. But the original is better, and it's hard to put 2 Home Alones in your top 4. I bet it would do better in a top 10 vote.

I actually prefer it to 1. I suspect there must be others around my age who remember that one more. It's actually my first memory of seeing a movie in the theater. (I was 4.)

I was also obsessed with the Talkboy that I got for Christmas that year.

I can take or leave #2. It's good, but I don't think it's the classic that the original is.

Just watched the Diane Sawyer thing on the 20th anniversary of Love, Actually.

Kinda cool to hear Richard Curtis and some of the actors reminiscing about it.

Emma Thompson seems like a really cool lady.

Has it ever been discussed that die hard came out in the summer?

nearly every legit Christmas movie has come out during holiday season. Miracle is an exception. And die hard.

Yes, this has been discussed. But so have other "legit" Christmas movies, such as the original Miracle on 34th Street, which came out in May 1947.

Insert Homer Simpson DOH! here. When I read Miracle, I actually thought of the 1980 Olympics hockey movie rather than the Christmas classic.

Mine would be

A Christmas Story
Scrooged
Grinch - Jim Carrey version
Christmas Vacation

I always watch those four and I've watched the first two already this year.

I also always watch these or almost always:
Elf
Die Hard
Love Actually - watched it this year already
Grinch - animated version

And this year I also watched
A Christmas Story Christmas - the sequel - enjoyed it quite a bit

Fun watch on the making of Home Alone.

Some prophetic words at 8:30. It's interesting that they knew this even while making the movie.

Pretty fun commentary track for Home Alone by Chris Columbus and Macaulay Culkin.

Some great stories and trivia in there. Unfortunately it doesn't have the movie playing but it's a great listen.

CV - every year.
Elf - most years and yearly for several in a row.

A Christmas Story - almost every year. Used to always watch start to end on,dvd but sometimes now I see it all piecemeal on tv. Still top 2 or 3 for me.

Used to be every year but now sometimes every couple or three -Santa Clause the Movie, Trading Places, Snowball Express.

Love Actually - a lot but not as frequent. The more it gets into the depressing stuff each time the more I'm ready to bail.

Arthur Christmas is good and I've seen a couple of times now. Klaus son Netflix is as well but it is different.

Just finished Polar Express for the first time. A few decent moments but still overall kind of sucks.

1961? Babes in Toyland - periodically. Lots of nostalgia but pretty heavy on musical and too "old Disney" campiness.
Staff - take out the trash.
